The CFTC is reviewing a broader crypto framework covering market structure, DeFi, leverage, predictive markets and tokenization.
Ethereum and Solana may be particularly affected by future DeFi and tokenization rules because of their blockchain ecosystems. Regulatory clarity does not guarantee price increases. Each asset will still depend on adoption rates, liquidity, market conditions and ultimately U.S. rules.
As the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) pays increasing attention to cryptocurrencies, the U.S. cryptocurrency market is about to face another major regulatory challenge. The agency recently convened members of its first Innovation Advisory Committee, which consists of 43 members from the fields of cryptocurrency, traditional finance, exchanges and technology.
The discussion covered several areas that could affect the future structure of the U.S. cryptocurrency market. CFTC Chairman Michael Selig said that if the CLARITY Act did not become law, the agency may set its own rules for the crypto market. He also instructed staff to explore the market structure framework for digital assets and communicate with developers engaged in decentralized financial development.
These developments have brought several mature cryptocurrencies under closer scrutiny. As U.S. regulators develop clearer rules for transactions and blockchain-based financial activities, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, Solana and Shiba Inu may each be affected to varying degrees.
CFTC promotes new crypto market framework
The CFTC's latest move shows that it is more focused on setting clear rules for the digital asset market. The agency is studying how exchanges, derivatives platforms, the DeFi protocol and other crypto businesses operate under federal supervision.
The issue of leverage was also discussed during the meeting. If future rules and legislation allow, cryptocurrency exchanges may be able to offer leveraged products under CFTC supervision. The agency's focus on DeFi is equally significant. Selig has instructed staff to communicate with developers and study possible legal paths for on-chain agreements operating in the United States.
Ethereum may benefit from clearer DeFi and tokenization rules
Ethereum is closely related to these areas of regulatory concern. Its blockchain supports decentralized finance, stablecoins, tokenized assets and other applications that may fall under the rules of future market structure. The CFTC also emphasized that tokenization is an area where blockchain technology may become more important in traditional financial markets.
Greater regulatory clarity could provide institutions with a clearer framework to use blockchain-based financial products. However, the impact on Ethereum will depend on the final rules and how they are implemented.
Litecoin becomes focus in digital commodity rule-making
Litecoin plays a different role in the cryptocurrency market. Its main functions focus on payments and transfers rather than decentralized applications. However, clearer federal rules could affect how litecoin is traded on exchanges and derivatives markets. Regulatory certainty may also make it easier for financial companies to determine how mature digital assets are integrated into their products. The potential impact will depend on market demand, liquidity and how cryptocurrency derivatives are handled.
Ripple remains closely watched amid U.S. regulatory changes
Ripple may remain an important asset to watch as federal regulators improve their handling of digital goods. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse is one of the industry executives on the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee. Membership in the committee gives the company a direct say in discussions on market structure and regulatory policy. However, participation in the committee will not provide special regulatory treatment for Ripple.
Instead, future rules will determine how exchanges, financial institutions and other market participants handle trading in Ripple in the U.S. market.
Solana may benefit from clearer regulation on DeFi
Solana is another blockchain closely related to decentralized applications. Its ecosystem includes the DeFi protocol and other on-chain services, which may be affected by future federal rules. The CFTC's decision to engage with DeFi developers could have a broader impact on networks that support decentralized financial activities. A clear regulatory path helps developers understand their obligations. At the same time, stricter requirements may increase compliance costs for certain projects.
Shiba Inu Coin faces different regulatory environments
Shiba Inu Coin is in a different position because its market activities have historically been mainly driven by retail traders and community participation. Clearer exchange and market rules can reduce uncertainty in SHIB processing on U.S. trading platforms. However, regulatory clarity will not automatically increase demand for the token. Its future performance will still depend on liquidity, market sentiment, ecosystem activity and the broader cryptocurrency situation.
Importance of the CFTC's new direction for altcoins
The CFTC's latest discussions suggest a possible shift from regulatory uncertainty to a more structured federal framework. The agency also reviews market structure, DeFi, leverage, forecast markets and tokenization. The outcome remains uncertain because congressional legislation could still change the regulatory landscape. The CLARITY Act remains an important factor in determining how responsibilities are divided among federal agencies.
For Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, Solana and Shiba Inu, the next stage will be closely related to these policy decisions. Clearer rules may increase certainty for market participants, but each cryptocurrency will face different opportunities and regulatory requirements. The main question is no longer whether U.S. regulators will deal with the structure of the crypto market, but how broad these rules will be and how quickly they will be implemented.
