Key Points

Goldman Sachs cut its target price for YSS in half, from $28 to $14, maintaining a neutral rating on the stock.

The satellite manufacturer cut its median 2026 revenue forecast by 32% to $390 million from $570 million.

Management attributed the downward revision of revenue expectations to supply chain constraints and delayed contract decisions.

Shares fell 4.3% to $9.36 in early trading Tuesday, a cumulative decline of 51% over the past month.

The Wall Street consensus price target price has dropped to $19.50 from $33 in early August.

Wall Street turns cautious

York Space Systems (YSS) shares fell 4.3% to $9.36 in early Tuesday morning after Goldman Sachs unexpectedly lowered its target price by 50% to $14 from $28.

Although Goldman Sachs maintains a neutral rating on the satellite manufacturer, the investment bank pointed out that the company's sharp cut in revenue forecasts and increased competitive pressure in the aerospace industry are the main factors driving the target price adjustment.

This sharp reduction in expectations occurred on August 13, when York's second-quarter earnings report was released. Company management adjusted its 2026 revenue forecast to a range of US$375 million to US$405 million. The new median of $390 million is down 32% from the previously announced median of $570 million.

York attributed the downward revision to continued supply chain difficulties and expected delays in contract awards. Market participants reacted negatively to this.

In the past month alone, the stock has plunged 51%. For reference, YSS landed on the public market through an initial public offering in January with an offering price of $34 per share.

Wall Street turns cautious

The sentiment among financial analysts has become significantly more conservative. In early August, 70% of analysts tracking YSS gave a buy rating. According to FactSet data, this ratio has now dropped to 50%.

Analysts 'consensus price target also fell sharply, from $33 in early August to the current $19.50. Goldman Sachs 'new target price of $14 represents a significant discount to the consensus figure.

At current levels, the revised average target price implies a valuation of approximately 4 times expected 2027 revenue. Despite the downward revision of guidance, this valuation multiple remains relatively stable. What has really changed fundamentally is the underlying sales forecast, which has been lowered from a recent estimate of $850 million to approximately $500 million.

Space Force contract failed to stop the decline

Shares continued to fall on Tuesday despite positive operating conditions. York announced its selection into the U.S. Space Force Space Data Network Backbone Program. The defense project aims to maintain a reliable space-based communications infrastructure for military operations. York will be responsible for producing satellites and related hardware components for the program.

However, news of the contract award was not enough to offset investors 'concerns about reconciling Goldman's target price cut under revenue guidance. York focuses on manufacturing satellites and space infrastructure for commercial customers and defense organizations. Goldman Sachs acknowledged that despite York's considerable defense contract pipeline and expanding business prospects, increasing competitive pressures remain a continuing challenge.

The S & P 500 overall rose 0.2% in early Tuesday morning, further highlighting the weak performance of YSS relative to the market.
