Bitwise introduces institutional index strategy to the chain
Bitwise Asset Management has launched a product called "Automated Token Portfolio" under the internal brand Strats, which provides qualified investors outside the United States with a fully on-chain and professionally managed themed equity strategy.
Eligible investors outside the United States can now hold investment strategies designed and managed by Bitwise, issued through Coinbase tokenized shares, and automatically rebalanced by Glider in its own wallet.
As of July 1, 2026, Bitwise managed US$9 billion in customer assets, and it has built its first Strats on Coinbase tokenized U.S. stocks and made them available through the Glider platform.
The first strategy is the "Mag7" combination, which includes high-growth stocks in artificial intelligence, robotics and aerospace technology.
In the past, having a professional manager manage strategy often meant buying a collective investment vehicle and surrendering the assets. With Strats, managers still manage strategies, but investors retain ownership of assets.
Bitwise formulates strategies and determines the subject and weights of positions. Coinbase issues each position in the form of tokenized U.S. shares, backed 1:1 by real shares, and enjoys full shareholder rights.
How infrastructure works
This product is built on Coinbase's recently launched tokenized stock infrastructure on Base, its Ethereum Layer 2 network.
Coinbase launched tokenized U.S. stocks on Base, initially targeting investors outside the United States, including shares of Apple, Nvidia, Meta and Alphabet.
Stock tokens are issued in accordance with regulatory requirements of the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), where Coinbase recently established an international tokenization center.
Glider is responsible for the automation layer.
Unlike traditional ETFs that package assets into fixed products, Glider allows users to hold investment-like portfolios with custom weights, and automatically maintain and rebalance, eliminating the need for users to manually perform transactions.
This policy has an access rate of 0.15%, which is applicable to qualified investors.
Coinbase tokenized shares and Bitwise Strats are only available to individuals in eligible jurisdictions outside the United States. For investors outside the United States, holding a portfolio of large U.S. companies often requires opening a U.S. brokerage account, bearing currency conversion costs, or even being unable to participate at all. There is no need for U.S. resident status, a U.S. bank account, or a U.S. brokerage account to hold Strats.
The launch comes at a time when the broader tokenized stock market is gaining momentum. According to www.example.com, the market value of tokenized stocks has reached approximately US$2.48 billion, a 5.2% increase in the past month. Monthly transfers have reached US$27.28 billion, with more than 2.1 million holders. Citibank estimates that by 2030, the tokenized securities market could reach US$5.5 trillion.
