The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates has partnered with Vermeg to build a digital asset securities depository system using Delta Capita's MACH distributed ledger technology
The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) and Vermeg, a financial technology infrastructure provider, announced that they have selected Delta Capita's MACH distributed ledger technology (DLT) to support its integrated digital asset securities depository system (DASD). Delta Capita's MACH distributed ledger solution is designed to help financial institutions unleash valuable opportunities for efficiency improvements, cost savings, improved compliance, and enhanced security. This solution belongs to privately licensed distributed ledger technology.
Core advantages of MACH distributed ledger technology
According to MACH, its distributed ledger technology fully considered integration and interoperability at the beginning of its design, and can be seamlessly connected with traditional financial industry networks (such as the ISO15022/ISO20022 standards of the SWIFT system) and emerging distributed ledger programming languages. The solution will be delivered to the Central Securities Depository recently launched by the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates.
What is the tokenized securities depository system that MACH is building?
A tokenized securities depository system is a digital infrastructure that uses blockchain or distributed ledger technology (DLT) to record, manage and settle the ownership of traditional financial assets such as stocks, bonds and funds. According to previous announcements, Vermeg was appointed by the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates in April 2026 to design and deliver a traditional and digital central securities depository (CSD) platform to support government debt and Sukuk bonds, as well as a unified collateral management solution.
DASD will achieve efficiency improvements in capital, costs and revenue through T+0 settlement, enhanced collateral mobilization capabilities, and asset fragmentation. The system is also designed to support the issuance of native digital sovereign debt and Sukuk instruments, as well as the tokenization of existing financial instruments. This move is an important part of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates strategy to strengthen the country's capital market infrastructure.
Strategic Significance and International Vision
As early as April this year, when the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates announced that it would develop a tokenized securities depository system, it stated that this was a strategic move aimed at improving post-transaction operational efficiency and further consolidating the global competitiveness of the United Arab Emirates financial market. The central bank hopes to establish an integrated operating environment that meets the highest international standards to unify the management of liquidity and settlement processes for digital and traditional custody activities, and to enhance market readiness for future development, especially in the areas of digital assets and financial innovation.
Saif Humaid Al Dhaheri, Assistant President of Banking Operations and Support Services at the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, pointed out at the time: "The development of a central securities depository system is a key cornerstone of building a more efficient and resilient financial infrastructure, directly supporting the growth of the capital market and enhancing international investors 'confidence in the UAE market."
Badreddine Ouali, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Vermeg, also said: "We are honored to have been selected by the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates as a strategic technical partner for this important initiative. The United Arab Emirates Central Bank's vision to advance the United Arab Emirates capital market infrastructure is both ambitious and forward-looking."
