River is a financial services platform focused on Bitcoin, providing brokerage, custody and mining-related services. The company's current website identifies the plaintiff as River Financial Inc.
Blockstream Corp states that the defendant is independent from 2024
Although both names include "Blockstream", Blockstream Corp has tried to distinguish itself from the defendant in this case.
The company stated in a September 27 statement: "Starting from mid-2024, Blockstream Services USA and Blockstream Services Canada will no longer be owned, controlled or managed by Blockstream Corp."
This difference changes the scope of the dispute. River's lawsuit is against Blockstream Services Canada ULC, not Bitcoin infrastructure company Blockstream Corp, whose products include Liquid Network and Blockstream App.
Blockstream Corp responded separately in September to a major incident affecting the Liquid Network. On September 6, nearly 4,000 BTC left its alliance reserves, causing the network to be suspended; approximately 3,400 BTC were subsequently returned during the recovery process. These incidents relate to the current operating conditions of Blockstream Corp and are not related to River's contract claims against Blockstream Services Canada.
The Government Registry of Canada continues to list Blockstream Services Canada ULC in Vancouver, British Colombia.
