XRP Absa Bank launches digital asset custody services based on Ripple technology
Standard Bank of South Africa (Absa) Corporate Investment Banking now provides digital asset custody services based on Ripple custody technology in South Africa. The move provides institutional investors with a regulated way to securely secure cryptographic assets and manage private keys through major African banks.
Absa describes its new service as a Secure and Regulated environment on its "Digital Asset Custody Platform" specifically for institutional digital assets. The bank said the system applies traditional financial industry standards in governance, approval, compliance and recoverability, rather than viewing crypto asset custody as a special product with loose controls.
The timing of this move is crucial. According to Chainalysis data, between July 2024 and June 2025, the value of on-chain crypto assets in sub-Saharan Africa exceeded US$205 billion, an increase of approximately 52% from the previous year.
Integrating crypto asset custody into the core banking system
This is not just an ordinary wallet product. Absa said its hosting architecture ensures security by protecting keys and authorizations in a secure hardware environment and using deterministic key derivation technology rather than permanently storing static private keys. The bank also placed special emphasis on system recoverability and institutional approval control mechanisms.

Ripple 正超越单纯的 XRP 支付公司角色
另一个值得关注的角度是 Ripple 自身的发展。
Ripple 于 2025 年 10 月首次宣布与 Absa 达成托管合作伙伴关系，使 Absa 成为其在非洲的首家主要托管合作伙伴。此后，Ripple 继续扩展其托管能力，业务范围涵盖支付、RLUSD 稳定币以及代币化等领域。
此前报道指出，Ripple 的业务模式已不再局限于 XRP，托管服务正逐渐成为一个独立的机构收入增长点，标志着该公司业务版图的进一步拓宽。
