Binance completed its latest monthly LUNC destruction, permanently removing more than 334 million tokens
Binance has carried out its latest round of Terra Luna Classic ($LUNC) monthly destruction, permanently removing the circulation supply of 334,879,422 tokens. This destruction covered the transaction fees charged on the exchange during August 2026, bringing the total number of LUNCs destroyed by Binance to 87.7 billion.
Continued deflation commitment
The move is part of Binance's established policy-since the end of 2022, the exchange has destroyed some of the LUNC spot and leveraged trading fees every month. The last round of destruction was completed on August 1, 2026, and Binance permanently removed approximately 275.6 million LUNCs, accounting for 50% of the transaction fees incurred in LUNC-related transactions in July.
The 334.8 million tokens destroyed in September reflected a month-on-month increase in monthly transaction fees, indicating that trading activity was more active in August.
Major exchanges (especially Binance) supplement the on-chain destruction tax mechanism by withdrawing funds from transaction fees monthly for destruction. As of August 1, 2026, Binance has destroyed a total of 87.43 billion LUNCs. Contributions in September raised the number to 87.7 billion, approaching the 90 billion mark.
Status of supply cuts
While monthly destruction is a clear signal that Binance supports Terra Classic's deflationary roadmap, analysts note that the current rate of destruction remains slow relative to overall supply. With a total circulation supply of 5.52 trillion pieces, the current destruction rate can only reduce the supply by approximately 0.6% per year, which means that continued high trading volumes are crucial to having a substantial impact.
Binance's destruction runs in parallel with the Terra Classic community's own on-chain mechanisms. On August 2, 2026, the community passed Governance Proposal #12223 to increase the on-chain transaction destruction tax to 1.5%, the biggest change in the LUNC token economy model in more than a year. The tax rate is allocated as: 1.2% for permanent destruction, 0.15% for community pool, and 0.15% for oracle pool.
Combined with the on-chain destruction tax, the original destruction of Terraform Labs, and the contribution of the exchange, independent tracking data shows that since the mechanism was launched in May 2022, the total destruction volume of LUNC has exceeded 452 billion pieces. Despite progress, prices usually rise by 5% to 15% after destruction announcements, but often fade within weeks as the huge supply dilutes the impact. Substantial changes in the balance of supply and demand require continued increases in destruction rates (orders of magnitude increase) or major exchanges expand their destruction programs.
