Chainlink oracle extraction value (OEV) and intelligent value recovery mechanism
Whenever a Chainlink oracle pushes new price data onto the chain, it may instantly qualify certain mortgage positions for liquidation. Automated robots will race to seize this opportunity and profit from it, while the agreement to generate price updates gets nothing. The industry calls this phenomenon "Oracle Extractable Value"(OEV).@ Chainlink has built a mechanism to change this.
Smart Value Recovery (SVR) adds an optional private transport layer to the standard chain-linked price feed. By sending oracle updates through a dual aggregator architecture, SVR makes auctions for clearing enforcement rights possible. In practice, price reports are transmitted along two paths simultaneously: one through the public memory pool as usual, and the other through a private channel, where searchers bid for the right to perform the corresponding clearing. The recovered OEV revenue will be distributed between the parties integrating the DeFi protocol and the connected network.
Non-toxic design
A key feature of this design is its clear scope of application. The linked SVR is specifically built for clearing-related backrunning and cannot be used for toxic forms of MEV that are harmful to user experiences such as front-end transactions or sandwich attacks.
SVR also provides a safety net for protocols that are concerned about private routing failures: It uses standard-price feeds as a backup to ensure that pricing data is continuously provided to the protocol through the public memory pool in the event of a private route failure.
The first version of Linked SVR was developed in collaboration with BGD Labs, Flashbots, and other Aave DAO contributors. It uses a combination of the oracle linked network and Flashbots 'MEV-Share service to recycle orator-related MEVs.
From Ethereum to multi-chain expansion
As the largest loan agreement based on total locked value (TVL), Aave integrated the linked SVR on the Ethereum main network after completing the on-chain voting that ends on March 28, 2025 and was unanimously approved. Aave began using SVR to recover clearing MEVs from the initial market set, including tBTC, LBTC, AAVE, and $LINK. Recovered OEV revenue is distributed at an initial discount rate, with 65% belonging to the Aave ecosystem and 35% belonging to the Chain ecosystem.
Since its launch, adoption has expanded significantly. The system has been adopted by major DeFi lending platforms, including Aave, Compound, Venus and multiple Morpho markets.@ Chainlink has also added a second auction venue and expanded SVR to Base, Arbitrum and BNB Chain, deepening the multi-chain coverage of the product.
Since its launch, smart value recovery has quickly become the leading solution for capturing oracle related MEVs, accounting for an estimated 99% market share.
