Cryptocurrency analyst Levi Ritveld focuses on XRP regulatory challenges
Well-known cryptocurrency analyst and founder of Crypto Crusaders Levi Ritveld focused this week on the ongoing regulatory challenges facing XRP. Ritveld addressed the current debate over the CLARITY bill and emphasized that the Securities and Exchange Commission's latest developments have taken precedence over stalled legislative efforts.
The SEC strengthens supervision
Ritveld pointed out that the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission already have the tools to regulate cryptocurrencies through existing authority. He said these agencies can develop and enforce rules for the cryptocurrency space without waiting for Congress to pass new legislation.
SEC Chairman Paul Atkins publicly confirmed this strategy, making clear that the agency is "ready, willing and capable of issuing rules" regardless of whether Congress takes action on the CLARITY bill. Commissioner Hurst Pierce also said that regardless of the outcome of the bill, the SEC intends to advance the framework for custody, tokenized securities trading and cryptocurrency financing.
Ritveld commented that formal rulemaking and new guidance from regulators will move forward within days, diverting market attention from delayed Senate procedures to immediate regulatory measures.
As the debate over the passage of the CLARITY bill intensifies, XRP, which trades for close to $1, has attracted more attention. Although Ritveld's video commentary contained a "crash" warning, he was optimistic about the asset's long-term regulatory clarity and its prospects in the face of change.
Legal basis and future structure of XRP
Ritveld explained that the key development for XRP is its gradual integration into a clearly regulated financial framework. He emphasized that Ripple's long-standing litigation with the SEC has set multiple precedents for the industry and achieved significant results in terms of legal clarity.
Commissioner Pierce confirmed that efforts to develop rules for decentralized finance, custody, and tokenized securities trading are now on the SEC's agenda. These areas are directly related to XRP's core infrastructure and will provide a basis for broader institutional engagement once legal certainty is consolidated.
As regulatory momentum builds, Wall Street is also undergoing a major shift. Traditional markets, which previously relied on multiple tiers of brokers, are now rapidly integrating Web3 technology. Investors are turning to platforms that allow users to hold stocks of major U.S. companies, gold and silver directly in crypto wallets. By tokenizing real-world assets and automating price discovery, such solutions eliminate intermediaries and reduce trading friction between institutional and retail participants.
Congressional efforts still make sense
Although the SEC actively promotes new cryptocurrency guidance, Congressional action remains important. SEC Chairman Atkins believes that written law provides more long-term stability than administrative rules, which can be modified or revoked by agencies.
The Senate vote on the CLARITY bill is scheduled for September 15. The bill requires the support of at least seven Democratic senators to meet the 60-vote closing debate threshold. Senator Bernie Moreno said all 53 Republican senators support the measure and expects several Democratic senators to vote in favor.
Atkins believes that a law will provide lasting certainty for cryptocurrency market participants and better guard against the risk of policy reversals than regulatory guidance alone.
As regulators are already developing a comprehensive framework, agency access to assets such as XRP is expected to expand regardless of the Senate vote. These structural changes mark a transition period, and the two paths of regulation and legislation together shape the future of the market.
