Chai Hefu, 36, is from Menlo Park, California, and Xiang Huaisong, 30, is from Jersey City, New Jersey. Chai Hefu will appear in federal court for the Northern District of California, while Xiang Huaisong is scheduled to appear in a federal magistrate judge in New Jersey.

U.S. Attorney Jamie McDonald said: "It is illegal to misappropriate confidential information to seek personal gain in the derivatives market. This is exactly the accusation we have made against Chai Hefu and Xiang Huaisong. Today's indictment makes clear that company insiders cannot circumvent securities and commodity laws by abusing illicitly obtained information in derivative transactions such as perpetual contracts, tokenized securities, or other similar financial instruments."

Jane Street's huge exit has once again attracted attention

This accusation has also put another similar high-profile case back into the public eye. Earlier this year, Wall Street's leading trading firm Jane Street Group faced charges for alleged trading activities during the May 2022 TerraUSD (UST) crash. Prosecutors in New York accused the company of communicating with insiders at UST publisher Terraform Labs through a private Telegram channel.

Prosecutors claimed that this contact allowed Jane Street to learn in advance about stablecoin related developments. Subsequently, the company was accused of selling approximately $192 million worth of UST before the UST token crash.
