Revolut launches EURR: Euro stablecoin for bank customers
Revolut launches EURR, marking the first time the financial technology giant has stepped into issuing a stablecoin specifically for the euro. The token is designed to maintain a stable value of 1 euro and provide eligible customers with a new way to transfer value between traditional currencies, cryptocurrencies and external wallets without leaving the apps they use on a daily basis.
What exactly is this new token and how it works?
This new token is an electronic currency token pegged to the euro and issued by Bridge Building, a subsidiary of Stripe. The company is regulated by the Luxembourg CSSF and is both a MiCA-licensed crypto asset service provider and an e-money institution. The token is provided to users by Revolut Digital Assets Europe under its own MiCA authorization from Cyprus regulator CySEC, and is issued through Bridge's Open Issue platform, which publishes reserve data.
In practice, this means that account holders can hold euro-denominated balances on the chain, transfer them between fiat and cryptocurrencies, and send them to supported external wallets and blockchain networks.
Where to Start and Future Directions
EURR's promotion phase started with Ethereum and is currently limited to eligible account holders in Denmark, Poland and Portugal, rather than being open to all users at once.
The company describes it as a phased approach to testing and plans to expand to more markets later this year. stablecoins pegged to other currencies are also under development, indicating that this will be the first of a number of similar products rather than a stand-alone release. Interested users outside the original market can join the waiting list to be notified when it opens more broadly.

What does this mean for the company's broader crypto strategy
Revolut launches EURR as the company already serves more than 75 million customers in more than 40 markets around the world, covering payments, foreign exchange and existing crypto trading services. By building its own stablecoin, rather than relying solely on existing U.S. dollar pegging options in the market, the fintech company provides customers who earn, save and consume in euros with a way to use blockchain currencies without having to take unnecessary currency risk. The company sees this as part of a broader shift to further integrate digital assets into mainstream day-to-day banking rather than being limited to trading platforms.
Conclusion
With this release, Revolut launched EURR as a euro-native alternative to enter the dollar-dominated stablecoin market, allowing specific customer groups to experience it in advance, and plans to expand more extensively later this year. As more currency-backed tokens enter the development stage, this release appears to be the beginning of the company's long-term stablecoin strategy rather than a one-time product launch.
