In contrast, the decline list appears relatively quiet. Akedo (AKE) fell 7.6%, the worst performer among the top 100 currencies;Zcash fell 3.5%;Near Protocol and Ethena each fell about 2.5%.
Why does Pepe continue to rise?
There is no single catalyst for Pepe's rise. As of now, there have been no new exchange launch news or favorable developments at the agreement level. Market observers have offered multiple explanations this week, but none have been confirmed.
Normally, memocoins amplify the direction of Bitcoin's trend when it fluctuates significantly. Monday's market environment provided traders with such an opportunity. Pepe's 22% gain is about three times the increase in Bitcoin, which is consistent with the sector's typical performance in past tight markets.
Shorts encounter fierce liquidation
The fuel for the market comes from a large-scale short squeeze. According to CoinGlass data, in the past 24 hours, traders betting on the decline of crypto assets suffered mandatory liquidation losses of $919 million, bringing the total liquidation amount to $1.09 billion. This figure surged nearly 248% from the previous day, with long positions clearing only US$167 million.
In total, approximately 139,841 traders were cleared. The single largest clearing order was a Bitcoin position worth $20.86 million, which was cleared on the Hyperliquid platform.
Among them, Bitcoin short positions contributed US$558 million in losses, while Ethereum short positions increased by US$202 million. The squeeze accelerated further as Bitcoin broke the $85,000 mark for the first time since January on Monday.
