Soluna Holdings completes the last 14 megawatts of grid connection of the Kati 1 project in Texas, and fully puts the Bitcoin escrow site into operation.
Soluna Holdings announced on September 8 that its Kati 1 project in Texas has completed the last 14 megawatts of power connection, marking the official completion of the Bitcoin escrow site with a total capacity of 83 MW. This milestone increased the company's total operating capacity to approximately 206 MW and announced the successful completion of the first phase of the planned 166 MW computing park.
In the project update announcement, Soluna also revealed that the Texas Electric Reliability Commission (ERCOT) conditionally classified the entire Kati park as a "Base Load" during the "zero batch" grid connection process. This category covers the completed Kati 1 and the planned 83-megawatt Kati 2 expansion project.
The first phase of the last 14-megawatt grid connection sign ends
Soluna said that each phase of the Kati 1 project was delivered as planned and infrastructure costs were controlled within budget. Since obtaining ERCOT approval, power access began in February this year. Among them, the 48-megawatt Kati 1A block was completed on April 1 and was occupied by Galaxy Digital; the remaining 35-megawatts will be put into operation in stages during the summer.
The company describes Kati1 as a Bitcoin escrow facility powered by the Las Majadas wind power project in Willasi County. According to the announcement, the cooperative mining agreement with Bitdeer announced in August this year is being implemented, and relevant equipment is being delivered and deployed one after another.
The classification of ERCOT is still in a conditional status.
"Zero batch" is a transitional review procedure conducted by ERCOT for large-load grid connection requests. Soluna pointed out that the "base load" status retains grid-connected capacity based on earlier research work and eliminates the project from further reliability assessments or megawatt allocation within the scope of the study.
However, this classification is not final. ERCOT is still conducting verification work and may be disqualified if applicants fail to respond to their information requests. Soluna said the company is actively participating in the process and expects the entire 166-megawatt park to be confirmed. Therefore, the final result is regarded as the company's expected goal rather than an established regulatory ruling.
Kati 2 targets artificial intelligence and high-performance computing
Kati 2 is planned as a second 83-megawatt phase dedicated to artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. Soluna said the park uses a "behind the meter" construction model that combines computing needs with wind power generation on-site rather than relying on new transmission infrastructure.
This development model reflects how operators allocate power capacity between Bitcoin mining and artificial intelligence workloads. Previously, Hyperscale Data announced that it would stop Bitcoin mining at a site in Michigan to make way for a planned artificial intelligence deployment. Soluna's model is different because Kati 1 is still dedicated to Bitcoin escrow, while Kati 2 is a proposed expansion that focuses on artificial intelligence.
