Chief Market Strategist, Wellington-Altus: Bitcoin has strong long-term technical prospects and enters a "super cycle"
James E. Thorne, Chief Market Strategist, Wellington-Altus When assessing Bitcoin's long-term technical prospects, Thorne pointed out that the medium-term trend of the cryptocurrency market has once again turned bullish, and the current market structure presents a very strong outlook.
According to Thorne's analysis, Bitcoin's weekly chart currently shows one of the strongest technical forms in the market. He pointed out that during the pullback after peaking in 2025, Bitcoin prices fell back to near the rising 200-week moving average, but successfully held that level. Thorne believes this shows that the long-term upward trend has never been broken.
Analysts have noted that the 30-week and 40-week index moving averages have shifted from a downward trend to an upward trend since the June low. Thorne said the fact that Bitcoin prices are back on these moving averages suggests that the medium-term outlook has shifted from bearish to bullish. He added that weekly momentum indicators also supported the upward trend of prices and did not form any negative divergence signals.
Thorne emphasized that not only is the technical outlook improving, but the structure of the market environment in which Bitcoin is located is also changing. He said that the development of the GENIUS regulatory framework and the advancement of the tokenization process are pushing Bitcoin and the broader digital asset ecosystem beyond purely speculative markets and gradually integrating them into the infrastructure of the financial system.
Given the growing popularity of regulated stablecoins, tokenized U.S. Treasuries, and on-chain consensus systems, Thorne believes these developments may create more structural demand for Bitcoin that is different from previous market cycles. Therefore, he defines the current stage as a potential "supercycle."
In addition, Thorne also mentioned the four-year presidential election cycle in the United States. He pointed out that historically, the stock market usually enters its strongest performing period during this period.
On the macroeconomic level, Thorne believes the situation is also starting to favor Bitcoin. Although the supply shock caused by tariffs and rising oil prices triggered inflationary pressures, manufacturing productivity, wage levels and employment all showed signs of improvement, and inflationary pressures eased. Thorne believes that it was a mistake for the Fed to tighten monetary policy in this environment, and points out that the market has begun to absorb the subsequent impact of this policy adjustment.
To sum up, Thorne said that considering that Bitcoin holds its long-term moving average, its medium-term moving average is rising again, structural demand is strengthening, and the macro environment is becoming supportive, the current outlook points to a very strong bullish scenario.
