Canopy launches KMS Key Management Service to build a strong security line for token generation events.
Canopy, an AI-native platform for the construction and deployment of on-chain applications, officially released Canopy KMS, a Key Management Service that seals high-value signature keys in a dedicated secure enclave. The company said the move was aimed at ensuring that a tight security system was in place ahead of the upcoming token generation event (TGE).
How does Canopy protect keys from hackers?
According to the team, Canopy KMS adopts the design concept of "isolation first". This means that the keying material always resides inside the secure enclave, and the enclave only returns the signature results and no information is leaked otherwise. Canopy CEO Adam Liposky said they built the system from scratch to meet the specific needs of their ecosystem. Co-founder and chief technology officer Andrew Nguyen also pointed out that although the universal signer is widely compatible, it "cannot handle the granularity and transaction volume required for Canopy Terminal transfers." Because of this, they decided to build their own system that could handle these tasks on demand.
Canopy KMS came out at a critical time for cryptographic security
The company views the release of Canopy KMS as a proactive sign aimed at avoiding adding another loss of data to the increasingly critical cryptographic security situation. Chainalysis statistics show that from January to early December 2025, losses caused by direct exploit exceeded US$3.4 billion, and wallet intrusion incidents were on the rise. Entering 2026, malicious actors have not relaxed their offensive, especially in the second quarter. According to CertiK data, as of the end of the first half of 2026, vulnerability exploitation losses have exceeded US$1.3 billion, of which wallet intrusion is the main category, with a total of 33 incidents recorded and losses exceeding US$444 million. Key processing is one of the ways for wallet intrusion and has now become one of the most common weaknesses for attackers.
What does it mean to build from scratch?
Canopy KMS system is not only native to Canopy's operating system, but also responsible for managing signatures of functions such as fund bank payments, cross-chain bridge transfers, and chain creation. "Our system inherits this protection mechanism by default and requires no additional configuration," Liposky said. Two months ago, the company made news when it announced that it had completed an $8.5 million seed round of funding for its AI-native blockchain development. At that time, it also announced the progress of the testnet: more than 331,000 projects have been launched, of which nearly 27,000 were launched in the first 12 days. Canopy is currently available on the public testing website.
