In the northern French town of Vendin-le-Vieil, a family was attacked in an extremely brutal home invasion and kidnapped. It is believed that the attackers targeted the father because of his work in the cryptocurrency industry.
Attack and theft history
On the night of September 19 and 20, four masked suspects broke into the family home. The victims included parents and their two children, aged 8 and 12. Local media reported that the intruders took control of the family and committed violence; a 12-year-old daughter was injured after being hit in the face with a car key.
It was reported that the attackers threatened to force his father, who was engaged in the cryptocurrency industry, to transfer digital assets worth approximately 40,000 euros. Sources close to the investigation pointed out that the attackers conducted a thorough search of the house before requesting the transfer.
French investigators recorded that the suspect fled the scene with 40,000 euros of cryptocurrency, injuring the family physically and mentally but surviving. After obtaining the funds, the four men quickly fled. As of Sunday, they remained at large and police had not announced any arrests of suspects in the case.
French authorities launched an investigation
After the incident, prosecutors launched a criminal investigation on charges of kidnapping and extortion by an organized group. The judicial police departments in the provinces of Casa de Calais and the north, as well as the French National Cybercrime Office (OFAC), are jointly responsible for the case.
