Brown's campaign manager Patrick Eisenhauer responded to Fairshake's latest statement by saying: "Special interests panicked because they knew Sherrod would be committed to breaking the rigged system and standing up for Ohio's working class."
Senate suspends crypto market legislation
This campaign follows the Senate's decision not to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarification Act. The bill aims to establish comprehensive federal rules for the crypto market and divide regulatory powers between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
The motion on whether to review the bill failed by 49 votes to 50, failing to meet the required 60-vote threshold. All Democrats present voted against it, as did Republican Senators Susan Collins, Josh Hawley and Jerry Moran. Republican Senator Thom Tillis also changed the vote to "no" for procedural reasons, leaving open the possibility of reintroducing the bill later.
Due to the close votes, there is little time to review the legislation ahead of the upcoming November 3 midterm elections. Industry advocates warned that the move could have an impact on the election results.
Election Strategies and the Influence of Cryptocurrencies
Fairshake is a super political action committee focused on cryptocurrencies, with main funding coming from Coinbase, Ripple and venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz. As of January 2025, the organization had raised $116 million for the 2026 election cycle and reported remaining funding of $108 million at the end of August. Fairshake said it supports bipartisan candidates with crypto-friendly policies, but its ads typically focus on broad issues that resonate more with voters rather than directly mentioning cryptocurrencies.
The organization has used this advertising strategy throughout the 2024 election and recent congressional primaries.

Fairshake is a super political action committee (Super PAC) that supports political candidates who are sympathetic to digital assets mainly through major donations from large cryptocurrency companies and investors.
Stand With Crypto, an advocacy group backed by Coinbase, also responded to the Senate vote, saying it plans to hold lawmakers accountable for their positions on crypto-related bills. The group said it would include senators 'voting records on the Clarity Act in its member scorecard to mobilize supporters further in the November election.
