XRP Absa launches institutional-level digital asset custody service. Based on Ripple technology
Absa Corporate and Investment Banking, one of Africa's largest banking groups, officially launched the "Absa Digital Asset Custody" service on Monday. The platform is built based on Ripple's custody technology and aims to provide institutional investors with secure digital asset custody solutions.
Absa CIB announced on the X platform that this is "the first digital initiative for Africa and meets institutional standards." The official launch of this service comes about eleven months after the bank first announced its partnership with Ripple in October 2025.
Institutional Banking Standard Secure Custody
The platform provides institutional customers with a regulated environment for securing digital assets and managing private keys, and its standards fully comply with institutional requirements. Absa described the service as covering functions such as asset custody, key control, approval control and audit trail, emphasizing that it is positioned as a "treasury" rather than a trading venue.
Reece Merrick, general manager of Ripple's Middle East and Africa region, said the release allows Absa to set a "new benchmark for digital asset management that is safe, compliant and meets bank-level standards" across the continent. Currently, Absa has not disclosed the specific asset types, fee structure or list of its first customers it will custody.

从合作意向到产品落地
此次正式上线标志着自 2025 年 10 月 15 日 Ripple 宣布 Absa 为其在非洲的首个主要托管合作伙伴以来，双方合作项目的最终落地。当时，Absa 数字产品托管主管 Robyn Lawson 表示，银行选择 Ripple 的技术是因为其“满足了最高的安全和运营标准”。
此后，Ripple 持续扩展其托管业务，包括针对金融科技公司和加密企业的增强版 Ripple Custody 功能。目前，Absa 的产品页面引导潜在机构买家联系其销售部门。
Ripple 在非洲的战略推进
对于 Ripple 而言，此次发布加深了其在非洲的业务布局，此前其已为 Chipper Cash 提供支付技术，并通过本地合作伙伴推出了 RLUSD 稳定币。该托管平台加入了 Ripple 更广泛的 XRP Ledger 生态系统，助力 Ripple 在整个大陆锚定机构级数字资产的采用。
Ripple 表示，其更广泛的业务拥有超过 60 项监管许可证和注册资质。今年早些时候，其托管业务还引入了 Securosys 硬件安全模块以及 Figment 质押服务。
