Solana DvP: A new standard for institutional clearing
On October 6, the Solana Foundation launched Solana DvP (Bond Payment), an open source delivery and payment settlement program for institutional financial markets. The tool is an open source custodian that provides financial institutions with a standardized API interface to implement a "bond payment" settlement mechanism-that is, ensuring that assets are delivered at the same time as their corresponding payments.
The project, issued under a loose MIT license, aims to introduce this settlement guarantee as a reusable standard into public blockchain infrastructure, rather than relying on customized contracts common in traditional institutional transactions. In traditional markets, assets and cash need to be transferred through multiple layers of clearing houses and custodian banks, which usually takes one to two days, which not only consumes capital, but also leaves room for principal risk. Solana DvP compresses these multi-step processes into a single atomic transaction, ensuring that both operations are either completed at the same time or neither is performed.
According to the foundation, JPMorgan provided input in institutional settlement practices, which had a significant impact on design. Rhodel D'souza, head of market digital assets at JPMorgan Chase, said that establishing a shared atomic-level open standard for "money versus money" is "exactly the infrastructure needed for institutional market participants to operate on a large scale, avoiding settlement risk and counterparty exposure."
The foundation stated that the DvP program has passed an external security audit and is qualified to handle real funds, and plans to add privacy features to ensure the confidentiality of the settlement process.
Broader institutional trends on Solana
The release comes as institutional demand for Solana-based financial products continues to grow. BlackRock has expanded its on-chain product portfolio to now launch two tokenized money market products on the Solana, Ethereum and Tempo networks: BlackRock Daily Reinvestment Stabilizer Reserve Vehicle (BRSRV) and BSTBL. Among them, the BRSRV fund on Solana is designed to meet the GENIUS Act asset requirements to serve as reserve support for regulated stablecoins under new regulations.
Kraken has also entered the field of tokenized stocks on the network. The product, which covers more than 50 U.S. -listed stocks and exchange-traded funds, was launched in partnership with Backed, a company that focuses on tokenized securities, leveraging the Solana blockchain to provide so-called xStocks. Kraken and Backed chose Solana as the first chain for xStocks because of its "unmatched performance, low latency, and thriving global ecosystem."
Taken together, the launch of DvP tools and these new products shows that Solana is gradually becoming an important destination for regulated, institutional-level financial infrastructure, with its core advantages in settlement speed and open standards.
