Stellarnet trading volume soared nearly 275%
This week, Stellarnet\'s 24-hour trading volume surged approximately 275% to nearly $860 million, and its native token price climbed to approximately $0.185. This trend is difficult to attribute to a single event. Instead, three major catalysts emerged one after another in just a few days, jointly promoting this surge.
Protocol 27 \"Zipper\" launched on the main network
On Wednesday, Stellar Network announced that Protocol 27 (Zipper) has been officially launched on the main network. Zipper elevates authentication delegation into a first-class native feature that greatly simplifies the difficulty of correctly implementing it. Specifically, the proposal focuses on native authentication delegation, allowing one stellar account to authorize another account to operate on its behalf through a more direct network-layer process. The upgrade also includes security fixes to the Soroban smart contract environment that address the replay attack vulnerability by implementing credentials that are strictly bound to specific addresses. Protocol 27 is also the technical phase of the transition to Protocol 28, which is expected to introduce contract-based authentication for standard Stellar accounts.
Index inclusion and institutional custody add boost
In the latest adjustment, Hyperliquid (HYPE) and Stellar Network (XLM) were included in the Bitwise 10 Crypto Index ETF (BITW), while Polkadot (DOT) and Avalanche (AVAX) were removed. The ETF tracks the top ten cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation and adjusts regularly to reflect market changes. Stellar Network ranks 18th overall, but Bitwise\'s qualification screening has allowed XLM to enter the eligible group. Stellar Internet tokens entered the fund at a price of $0.18, with a weight of 0.38%.
In terms of custody, Clearstream, a major European post-transaction service provider and part of Deutsche Börse Group, has expanded its cryptocurrency custody services to include XLM. This move allows institutional investors to access regulated XLM custody services and improves the level of institutional access under the MiCA framework.
Among the three catalysts, index inclusion usually has the most direct impact on trading volume. ETF adjustments require fund managers to purchase newly included assets to match index weights, resulting in immediate, quantifiable buyer demand. Agreement upgrades and custody expansions are long-term structural benefits, but Bitwise\'s inclusion is likely to be the main driving force behind the immediate surge in transaction volume.
