Binance ETF perpetual contract trading volume exceeded US$116 billion, and its market share climbed

In almost one quarter, Binance controlled a new product category that most competitors did not expect.

According to relevant reports, since its launch in March 2026, Binance's cumulative trading volume of ETF perpetual contracts has exceeded US$116 billion, raising its market share in this field to 74%. This number is more than just a growth indicator-it marks a structural acceleration in the absorption of traditional financial instruments by cryptocurrency's native infrastructure.

When this product was launched, Binance's share of the ETF perpetual market was only 18%. Such rapid market share grabbing reflects both execution and the huge potential demand of cryptocurrency traders to gain familiar capital market exposure within the framework of perpetual contracts. In July this year alone, ETF perpetual contracts accounted for 19% of the Department of Currency Security's traditional financial perpetual contract transaction volume. Currently, the exchange has launched 146 such trading pairs, 35 of which were added in the past month, covering contracts tracking SPY, QQQ, semiconductor ETFs, national themed funds, and leveraged and reverse products.

This is not a simple new trading instrument. It is a convergence trend that has been brewing since the scale of the tokenized real-world asset chain exceeded US$20 billion and institutional investors began to settle treasury bond transactions directly through the native track of cryptocurrency. The broader wave of tokenization has shifted from marginal experiments to a core allocation direction for traders who pursue perpetual contract leverage mechanisms linked to underlying assets of non-cryptocurrencies. ETFs, a carrier familiar to retail investors and institutional funds, shorten the cognitive distance.

Why 74% market share matters now

Market concentration of more than 70% in any derivatives category is of concern-both from competitors and from regulators. Binance was able to seize share not because the market was blank, but because it acted quickly. Other major exchanges also offer traditional financial perpetual contracts, but few have built ETFs 'exclusive infrastructure, liquidity and trading pair density with more than 140 contracts like Binance. In derivatives markets, the depth of order books and the breadth of listings often form self-reinforcing: liquidity attracts liquidity. This dynamic makes it structurally difficult for competitors to regain lost ground once a platform establishes early advantages.

This dominance will be closely watched as legislative pressure intensifies on hybrid encryption products. Increasing regulatory pressure in Washington on hybrid crypto products is already redefining how compliance models should be constructed when exchanges begin combining exposure to similar securities with cryptocurrency-style margin and settlement mechanisms. The prosperity of ETF perpetual contracts happens to be in this gray area.

User behavior revealed by changes in trading volume

ETF perpetual contracts accounted for 19% of the Ministry of Currency Security's traditional financial perpetual contract trading volume in July, a signal that demand is not a novelty. Traders are clearly moving away from traditional perpetual contract categories-foreign exchange, commodities, equity indices-to ETF formats, likely because the latter can provide packaged exposure, lower tracking friction, and integrate into the existing risk system that is already familiar with ETFs. The fact that 35 new trading pairs have been added in the past month suggests that Binance believes the product is resilient: demand grows as the available menu expands.

Users accustomed to cryptocurrency token perpetual contracts can trade QQQ or leveraged semiconductor ETFs without learning new trading venues or settlement processes. This sense of familiarity reduces the conversion costs that typically protect existing broker-dealers. The growing demand for institutional pledges in the market suggests that mainstream capital's acceptance of cryptocurrency's native mechanisms is increasing, while ETF perpetual products extend this acceptance to a wider range of asset classes.

Uncertainty still exists

The sustainability of a 74% market share is far from guaranteed. Competitors that have underestimated the speed of adoption are building their own ETF perpetual contract product lines, a pie that will attract more aggressive market makers and could put pressure on rates if trading volume continues to grow. Binance itself does not disclose how much of the US$116 billion in trading volume is real transactions, how much is swiping or driven by incentives, and the report does not provide disaggregated data on unique traders. In the absence of fine-grained data, this overall figure, while impressive, is incomplete.

Regulatory risk is another variable. The same framework debate surrounding crypto ETFs and tokenized securities also applies to the carrier of perpetual contracts. Whether regulators ultimately classify ETF perpetual contracts as security-based swaps or other categories will determine their compliance burden, and any unfavorable classification could reshape the market overnight. For now, the data suggests that the market's need to connect traditional finance with native execution of cryptocurrencies is profound and highly concentrated in at least one exchange.
