HYPE rose 16% in response to Trump's claim that the CFTC chairman is pushing Hyperliquid into the United States for compliance.
U.S. President Trump said on Wednesday that Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chairman Mike Selig is working to introduce Hyperliquid into the United States through a compliant legal framework. Affected by the news, HYPE climbed from approximately US$62 to US$72.30, an increase of approximately 16%, as the market responded to the possibility of potential entry into the U.S. market.
Any expansion into the U.S. still requires Hyperliquid to meet rules such as registration, compliance, customer protection and market supervision. Trump made the remarks at a White House meeting with technology and encryption industry executives.
Trump mentioned the work of the CFTC
Trump said that Selig is introducing Hyperliquid into the United States in a fully compliant and legal manner. He cited Selig's authorization in May to list the first "real" Bitcoin perpetual futures contract on a CFTC registered exchange. Hyperliquid focuses on perpetual contracts, products that allow traders to speculate on asset prices without a fixed maturity date. But Trump did not say how the U.S. version would work, nor did he mention what approvals Hyperliquid would require.
U.S. rules remain at the core
U.S. derivatives exchanges must meet registration, customer protection and market regulatory requirements. These regulations restrict direct access to many offshore crypto derivatives platforms. Selig has argued that regulators can adjust existing rules to adapt to on-chain markets. He said in June that regulators wanted to open a path for chain markets to operate domestically in accordance with federal requirements. The CFTC has approved the listing of regulated perpetual bitcoin and Ethereum futures on U.S. platforms, and Coinbase and Kalshi have launched similar products.
HYPE rose on Trump's call for the Clarification Act
HYPE rose sharply after Trump's speech, and securities related to Hyperliquid-also rose on the day. Shares of Nasdaq-listed Hyperliquid Strategies rose 30.4% to $9.39, based on market data. Trump also urged Congress at the meeting to pass the Digital Asset Markets Clarity Act. He said the legislation would help the United States maintain its leading position with its counterparts. A procedural vote is expected in September, but lawmakers remain divided on parts of the framework. At the same time, the CFTC and the Securities and Exchange Commission continue to shape digital asset markets through existing regulatory processes. Trump's remarks do not represent approval by the CFTC. Any U.S. structure still relies on registration, compliance, market monitoring and applicable rules.
