MoneyGram launches Visa-branded stablecoin debit cards to accelerate the deployment of cross-border payments

MoneyGram is expanding its stablecoin business. Just a few weeks after competitor Western Union launched similar products, MoneyGram also officially launched a stablecoin debit card based on the Visa brand.

According to the company's announcement, MoneyGram Card will first be launched as a virtual card in the Colombia market, and users can use it through Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. As it expands into more markets later this year, the company plans to further launch physical card options.

The new card project is supported by infrastructure provider Rain. Notably, Western Union is also leveraging Rain's infrastructure to deploy its Stablecard product announced last month.

As early as June this year, MoneyGram launched its own stablecoin MGUSD on the Stellar blockchain to deepen its deployment in the field of blockchain-based cross-border payments and integrate the stablecoin into its exclusive application through the self-managed wallet feature. Last month, the company also announced a partnership with Solana Wallet to further expand its cryptocurrency deposit and withdrawal channels.

The World Bank has identified stablecoins as a key tool in reducing global remittance costs. According to its analysis report on the cost trends of remittance services released in September 2025, debit cards are the lowest cost channel for receiving remittances, and handling fees only account for 3.61% of the remittance amount.
