Cardano (ADA) faces new round of selling pressure

On Thursday, Cardano (ADA) encountered renewed selling pressure, which dropped nearly 3% in value and traded around $0.211. The recent correction has brought the token close to the key psychological and technical level of $0.21, a position that could determine its short-term trend.

Futures trading outpaces spot activity

Trading activity in the Cardano derivatives market intensified, with futures contracts trading volume reaching US$651.78 million in 24 hours. This figure was significantly higher than the $112.29 million recorded in the spot market, indicating that leveraged trading played an important role in ADA price movements. Futures trading volume is almost six times that of spot trading, highlighting the growing influence of traders who use leverage to trade short-term. Active trading in derivatives markets tends to amplify price fluctuations, because if prices move suddenly, the liquidation of leveraged positions can trigger a steeper decline.

ADA futures open interest remained high at $445.52 million, indicating that traders are willing to maintain significant exposure to the cryptocurrency despite weak prices. If long positions established during the previous rally begin to be closed, it could bring further downward pressure.

Currently, staying above the $0.21 threshold is considered critical. A break below this level could trigger more aggressive selling, and current price stability could allow buyers to absorb selling pressure and create the conditions for a potential rebound. Observers are watching changes in open interest contracts, funding rates and clearing data to gain insight into whether current bearish momentum will persist or show signs of exhaustion.

Cardano's futures trading reached US$651.78 million in 24 hours, far exceeding spot volume, highlighting the influence of leveraged traders on ADA price dynamics. Currently, a 3% decline combined with strong derivatives activity points to continued vulnerability to ADA's short-term price behavior.

Key support and resistance levels are concerned

After three consecutive days of decline, the ADA barely remained above $0.2100 on Thursday. The token currently maintains a good short-term structure, above its 20-, 50-and 100-day exponential moving averages (EMA), which are clustered between US$0.19 and US$0.21.

The 20-day EMA at US$0.2094 has become immediate support, and the ADA's stability above this level suggests buyers remain committed despite recent volatility. If it breaks below the 20th EMA, attention will turn to the concentrated support area around US$0.20. This support area includes the 100-day EMA at US$0.2004, the 50% Fibonacci retracement level at US$0.1999, and the 50-day EMA at US$0.1989, forming a cluster of technical indicators that may provide bottom support in the event of deep declines.

Indicators Level Role 20th EMA $0.2094 Instant Support 50-day EMA $0.1989 Lower support 100-day EMA $0.2004 Lower support 200 EMA $0.2446 Key Resistance 78.6% Fibonacci $0.2467 Key Resistance 50% Fibonacci $0.1999 Support clusters

Looking upwards, the main resistance area is between the 200-day EMA (US$0.2446) and the 78.6% Fibonacci retracement level (US$0.2467). The alignment of these technical markings may make it difficult for the area to be effectively breached, as sellers may increase activity around these levels. If the ADA can continue to exceed $0.2467, the next target will be set at the Fibonacci anchor point close to $0.2887.

In terms of momentum, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) on the Cardano daily chart stands near 55, indicating moderate optimism and there is room for further gains before entering the overbought zone. However, the Smooth Similarity Moving Average (MACD) indicator was slightly below its signal line, reflecting weakening upward momentum even as prices try to stay above $0.2100. Continued divergence in technical indicators may keep the ADA in range volatility until market participants establish clearer control.
