Core Points
SpaceX is comprehensively overhauling its data center construction strategy, emphasizing alternate infrastructure, advanced cooling systems, and rigorous pre-launch testing.
This revised strategy may slow the expansion schedule and may affect the revenue acceleration process.
A recent facility failure prompted Musk to commit to "corrective measures."
The company provides computing infrastructure to key customers such as Anthropic and Google, making data centers a key source of revenue.
Goldman Sachs predicts that SpaceX's AI revenue will surge from $3.2 billion to $322 billion between 2025 and 2030.
Strategic Transformation and Personnel Reorganization
SpaceX (SPCX) shares rose 1.6% in early trading on Wednesday after The Information reported that the company is making a comprehensive structural adjustment to its data center development approach, a shift that could slow infrastructure deployment. https://knockoutstocks.com/api/stocks/SPCX/embedSpace Exploration Technologies Corp., SPCX
This strategic turn follows SpaceX's recent leadership reshuffle. Faced with operational reliability challenges and technical shortcomings, the company dispatched engineers from the aerospace and Starlink divisions to replace the previous data center management team.
The newly appointed engineering team will shift its focus to building strong backup infrastructure, a comprehensive cooling architecture and thorough testing protocols before the facility is put into operation. Previous approaches were to implement these critical systems after the data center was already operational.
According to two people who provided direct information to The Information, SpaceX is evaluating the possibility of redesigning parts of its current operating facilities.
The company has Colossus data center facilities in Tennessee and Mississippi. The first Colossus 1 facility was put into use in July 2024 and took approximately four months to complete. Development of Colossus 2 began in March 2025.
Infrastructure failures intensify scrutiny
Earlier this month, a complete service outage occurred at a SpaceX data center. Elon Musk admitted the incident on Platform X, saying the company was "taking corrective measures to ensure that such incidents do not happen again."
The facility's disruption appears to have triggered a strategic reassessment of construction methods and personnel allocation.
SpaceX has not responded to Seeking Alpha's inquiries.
These data centers have evolved into important revenue streams. SpaceX has established computing power agreements with Anthropic (ANTHRO) and Google (GOOG, GOOGL), and completed arrangements with Reflection in June.
Analysts at Wedbush Securities believe that these capacity agreements may signal preparations for additional ultra-large Colossus-level infrastructure projects.
Significant financial impact
Goldman Sachs predicted in June that SpaceX's artificial intelligence revenue stream would grow 100 times, from US$3.2 billion in 2025 to US$322 billion in 2030.
This forecast raises the speed of data center development to a key performance indicator that market participants focus on.
SpaceX's AI revenue portfolio also includes its Grok interactive AI platform and related products.
In 2025, SpaceX's total revenue will be US$18.7 billion. Starlink, the company's satellite broadband service, contributed the vast majority of the share.
Although currently relatively small, the data center division is expanding rapidly and attracting a lot of attention from financial analysts.
SpaceX is reportedly considering developing a data center in Texas, while Musk has publicly discussed the prospects of deploying orbital data infrastructure.
Any long-term slowdown in infrastructure deployment could lead to delays in revenue benchmarks included in financial institutions 'long-term forecast models.
