Ethereum looks to new horizons and explores UTXO inspired models
Developers under the Ethereum Foundation are considering innovative strategies to cope with the growing data burden on their blockchain network. Researcher Tony Walstadt made a remarkable suggestion to draw on elements from the UTXO model. The UTXO model is a mature framework in the blockchain field. Walstadt proposed Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 8141, introducing the concept of \"frame transactions.\" This concept can transform standard payments into one-time operations, potentially cutting unnecessary data growth by nearly 99.8%.
But how does it work?
In this model, verification of transaction details is only done when needed and utilizes historical blockchain data. A simple bit flag in active memory will indicate whether the output of a transaction has not yet been spent. This is expected to significantly reduce the pressure on Ethereum data storage, which is critical to its sustainable scalability.
Walstadt\'s proposal aims to turn simple payments into a one-time operation, which he believes will reduce data growth at the base level by 99.8%.
As the proposal enters the initial \"draft\" stage in the Ethereum community, well-known figures such as Vitalik Buterin are actively participating in discussions. However, implementing such a proposal involves both technical feasibility and coordination with existing blockchain applications.
Why did Hoskinson intervene?
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinsen expressed criticism of these developments. Hoskinson previously left Ethereum due to differences over the direction of the network\'s development. He believes these discussions just prove the vision of Cardano\'s eUTXO model, which was strategically built to deal with the problem of scaling.
The introduction of the UTXO element, traditionally associated with Bitcoin, represents an endorsement of alternative strategies pioneered by other pioneers.
