Zhao Changpeng gave up the public wallet and asked to optimize the "ignore tokens" function.
Zhao Changpeng finally gave up the public cryptocurrency wallet he used. As a large number of memes, dust transactions and junk tokens poured into the address, he couldn't stop it. This incident also promoted improvements in Trust Wallet. Zhao Changpeng now requires that the wallet's "ignore tokens" function must be made easier to use.
Summary of Points
Zhao Changpeng gave up a public wallet that was flooded with memes and junk tokens. Trust Wallet already has an "ignore tokens" function, but the entrance is hidden. Wallets cannot prevent others from sending tokens to public addresses.
Zhao Changpeng abandons public wallet
The problem is not a hacking attack. A public blockchain address can accept compatible assets sent by anyone, and the address owner cannot refuse a transaction before it arrives. Zhao Changpeng experienced this on a large scale this time. This is not a new problem for him-in April 2025, 90 million fake Grok tokens were received at his address. This time, the continuous accumulation of promotional meme coins, small amounts of dust and junk tokens eventually made the address difficult to manage.
Therefore, Zhao Changpeng decided to abandon the address. But this does not clean up the blockchain, as received tokens and old transaction records are still visible. Public addresses retain their historical data.
The problem mainly affects the display interface of the cryptocurrency wallet. Users receive ten, fifty, or even hundreds of tokens without proactive request and don't want to see them every time they open the app. Zhao Changpeng initially believed that hiding these assets would be of little use to most people, but he later changed his mind.
Trust Wallet already has this function
After receiving feedback from multiple users, Zhao Changpeng admitted that he underestimated the practicality of this option. Trust Wallet actually has an "ignore tokens" feature that hides asset balances that users don't want to see in the interface.
The small problem is: According to Zhao Changpeng, it currently takes five clicks to find this function. He now hopes that application updates will make it more accessible, mainly due to adjustments to the interface. Trust Wallet cannot delete tokens received on the blockchain, nor can it prevent others from transferring money to a public address, so the app can only decide not to display it. This difference is important: concealing a memin does not destroy it, and contracts, transaction records and balances are still available on the chain.
Trust Wallet is already providing multiple protections for encrypted users. For example, in March this year, the app deployed protection against address poisoning attacks on Ethereum and BNB Chain. The system covers 32 EVM-compatible blockchains and compares suspicious addresses before sending transactions. Trust Wallet subsequently reported that more than 225 million address poisoning attempts had been detected. The feature requested by Zhao Changpeng solves a more daily problem: Tokens are constantly pouring in, and users just want them to no longer appear in front of their eyes.
Memoin mainly seeks exposure
Sending tokens to the public addresses of well-known people in the crypto field is cheap and sometimes in exchange for free advertising. Zhao Changpeng is undoubtedly an ideal target. Once the token appears in his wallet, its name may spread among X, Telegram or the trading community. Some projects use this to try to convince people that they are related to Binance's founders, even though there is no actual collaboration.
Similar situations have happened many times around him. A tweet by Zhao Changpeng may even trigger extremely violent market fluctuations. In October 2025, a trader used memein related to Zhao Changpeng's tweets to turn approximately US$3000 into US$2 million. So it's not surprising that his address would attract senders. Zhao Changpeng chose the simplest solution: exchange for a cryptocurrency wallet for daily use. Trust Wallet should make the "Ignore Tokens" button more visible. Wallets will remain public, and memes may continue to pour in.
