A new poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos shows that the majority of respondents in the United States believe that it is "inappropriate" for President Donald Trump and his family to make profits from cryptocurrency investments while in office. The survey of 1166 people conducted from August 14 to 17 showed that 63% of respondents said it was inappropriate for Trump and his family to make money through cryptocurrency. It is worth noting that 69% of Republicans surveyed believe there is nothing wrong with this, while 92% of Democrats disagree.

A report released in June by the U.S. Office of Federal Ethics revealed that Trump made $1.4 billion in profits from cryptocurrency-related investments in 2025, including gains made through his family's World Liberty Financial and his memin "Official Trump"(TRUMP). White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in multiple responses to requests for comment about Trump's cryptocurrency investments that "there is no conflict of interest."

Several lawmakers have called for an investigation into World Liberty and Trump family investments and asked government agencies to provide more information. In July, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said he had introduced legislation to create an agency specifically to deal with corruption at the federal level and singled out the president's "various extremely profitable cryptocurrency projects."

On Wednesday, Trump talked about cryptocurrencies at a press conference at the White House that was attended by numerous business executives and industry leaders. The president and other attendees urged Senate members to pass the Digital Asset Markets Clarification Act, which is expected to establish clear responsibilities for U.S. regulators to oversee digital assets. The bill is scheduled to go to a closing debate vote on September 15.
