September CPI Data Outlook: Final inflation reading before the Federal Reserve's October 28 decision

The September Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released on Wednesday will be the last inflation data release before the Federal Reserve makes its interest rate decision on October 28. According to data from CME's FedWatch tool, as of October 9, the market expects the probability of the Fed raising interest rates in October to be about 19%.

Crypto asset and equity traders are closely monitoring the intensive release of economic data this week. Since changes in interest rate expectations often affect the trend of risky assets, the performance of altcoins such as Solana (SOL), XRP, HYPE, Zcash (ZEC) and SUI has attracted much attention.

The Federal Reserve raised interest rates in September, the first rate hike since 2023. Currently, some market participants are weighing the possibility of raising interest rates for the second time in two months. Typically, higher-than-expected inflation data is seen as a signal that tightening policies may continue; more moderate data means that the need for further interest rates may decrease.

Key Token Analysis and Market Reaction

These five tokens each have different application scenarios and trading characteristics, so their responses to data may vary:

Solana (SOL): The intersection of speculative activity and interest rate risk

Solana is a Layer-1 blockchain platform launched in 2020 that carries decentralized financial applications, payment tools and numerous meme tokens. Because much of its activity is closely associated with speculative trading, SOL has historically been very sensitive to changes in risk appetite. If CPI data is "overheated", it may curb such speculative activity; conversely, if the data is soft, it is expected to relieve pressure.

XRP (XRP): Macro data transcends legal headlines

XRP is a native token for XRP Ledger, a network closely related to Ripple. Its main stated purpose is to achieve cross-border value transfer. Although its long legal history in the United States has often shaped its price movements, this week's focus turns to macroeconomic data, and XRP is expected to follow the overall market's reaction.

Hyperliquid (HYPE): Volatility and Leverage

Hyperliquid is a decentralized exchange (DEX) focusing on perpetual contracts, and its platform token is called HYPE. The platform will enter the market with the tokens at the end of 2024. The platform is based on the use of leverage, which means that after major data is released, huge trading volume and forced liquidation may occur.

Zcash (ZEC): A niche and professional asset

Zcash was launched in 2016 and is built based on Bitcoin's original code. It provides "shielded" transactions through zero-knowledge proof technology, ensuring that the amount, sender and recipient information remain hidden. Only 21 million ZECs are available for circulation on the market. As a more professional asset, its trading liquidity is relatively thin, which can lead to a large percentage of price fluctuations when news events occur.

Sui (SUI): Emerging networks in crowded tracks

Sui is a Layer-1 blockchain whose main network will be launched in 2023. Developed by Mysten Labs and using the Move programming language. In competition with other platforms such as Solana, its token prices are often in line with the broader altcoin market.

Why is the reaction different?

Although all five tokens face the same report, their market reactions may not be consistent. Assets that rely on high leverage (such as HYPE) may experience faster and more sharp swings, while assets that trade lightly (such as ZEC) may experience volatility at lower volumes. Market attention is expected to focus on Wednesday's CPI data and related speeches later Thursday. The results are full of uncertainty, and the October 28 decision remains the next important checkpoint.
