XRP ledger agent payments exceeded 13 million. Former executives look forward to the next stage of development.
Core points:
The number of agent payment transactions in XRP ledger (XRPL) has exceeded 13 million. Currently, 168 registered merchants support the use of XRP and RLUSD stablecoins for automated settlement. Former Ripple executive Chandler Fang expects merchant adoption rates to increase further as AI agents expand in computing resources and digital service payments. At the same time, RippleX is developing smart wallets with security features, verifiable identity and spending control capabilities to support automated transactions with settlement times of only 3 to 5 seconds.
Chandler Fang, former product leader at Ripple, believes widespread adoption by merchants will push XRP ledger agent payments beyond the 13 million transaction milestone. According to Fang, transaction volume increased rapidly from about 1 million transactions in July, reflecting a significant increase in the use of automated payments.
Fang, as co-founder of t54ai, responded to J.A., head of RippleX engineering, on the X platform. Akinyele's point of view. Akinyele confirmed that agent payments have exceeded its previous forecast of 10 million transactions. Data shows that the XRP ledger has processed 13,489,468 agent transactions among 168 registered x402 merchants, and settled 6,982.32 XRPs and 12,009.98 RLUSDs. Akinyele predicts that the total transaction volume may reach 100 million earlier than expected.
Merchant adoption shapes the next phase of XRPL payments
Fang pointed out that broader merchant integration will be the next stage of development in automated payments using XRP and Ripple's RLUSD stablecoins. He expects that more enterprises and digital services will accept payments initiated by AI agents through the XRPL x402 protocol.
This infrastructure allows software agents to pay directly for services, reducing manual checkouts. Existing application scenarios include payment for programming interfaces (APIs), digital information, and computing resources. Developers are also building tools to connect these payment functions with autonomous agent products. Fang's perspective focuses on expanding actual payment destinations, rather than just pursuing growth in transaction volume.
RippleX details the security mechanism for automated transactions
At the "XRP Seoul 2026" conference held on October 3, Akinyele outlined the infrastructure to support payments between digital systems. He said that agent payments account for approximately 25% of total XRP ledger activity.
Ripple's development plans for this fast-growing area include verifiable identities, transaction permissions, and spending limits for agents handling digital assets. These proposed safeguards aim to control what transactions agents can perform and how much they can spend. The proposed secure smart wallet would hold XRP and stablecoins and apply those rules to automated transactions. Akinyele also stressed that settlement time for XRPL payments is 3 to 5 seconds.
Merchant data and infrastructure plans together demonstrate how RippleX is preparing for wider adoption of agent payments. The next phase of growth Fang foresees depends on more merchants connecting their services to automated settlement tools on the network.
