Sanitation's warning came true
On-chain analytics company Sanitation flagged $DOGE in its weekly anomaly report, calling it "unnews-free hype." At the time, social sentiment had climbed to +12.09 and prices were consolidating within a narrow range of $0.071 to $0.073, a pattern the company described as a warning sign rather than a build-up before a breakthrough. The key level to focus on is clear: a daily closing price below $0.071 will return the initiative to the seller.
This support line was broken below on July 23. Emotion-driven assets like Dogecoin tend to turn quickly, and this trading day serves as a reminder of that.$ DOGE slipped to about US$0.069, a drop of nearly 5% on the day, becoming the worst performing among the top ten cryptocurrencies by market value.
Oil exceeding $100 is the culprit
The trigger comes from a macro level rather than a cryptocurrency-specific event. The Houthis claimed to have attacked two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, causing Brent crude oil futures to rise by 7%, and oil prices to break through US$100 a barrel again. This shock wave spread widely to risky assets. The Nasdaq index fell 2.6%, as rising oil prices and ballooning AI capital spending weighed on market sentiment.
Cryptocurrencies have not been spared either. Bitcoin fell below $66,000 after hitting its highest level in more than a month as soaring oil prices rekindled inflation concerns. There has also been a safe-haven rotation within cryptocurrencies, with Bitcoin's dominance climbing to 59%, and funds withdrawn from altcoins. Sanitation had previously described $DOGE as a scaled-up version of Bitcoin beta, but this time it fell more than most altcoins, which just confirmed this judgment.
When oil prices exceed $100, cryptocurrencies often struggle. The mechanism is that soaring energy costs push up inflation expectations, push back interest rate cuts further, and drain the liquidity on which risky assets rely.
The current situation is not irreversible. If the US$0.071 level can be quickly recovered, the bulls will regain their say. Until then, Sanitation's analytical framework remained true: sellers controlled the situation, and $DOGE was the most vulnerable target in any broad market decline. Non-investment advice.
