OpenAI is planning a new round of financing of US$30 billion, with a valuation of US$1.4 trillion.
It is reported that artificial intelligence giant OpenAI is considering a new round of financing of up to US$30 billion. If the deal is completed, it would be valued at US$1.4 trillion, making it one of the most valuable companies in the world, even if the company has not yet been officially listed.
According to Bloomberg News on Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the matter, OpenAI is currently in the early stages of discussions on a new financing round, and high demand from investors has driven the relevant negotiations. The proposed valuation is about 64% higher than in March this year, when OpenAI raised $122 billion at a $852 billion valuation.
Financing discussions are underway as OpenAI delays its much-awaited initial public offering (IPO) until 2027 at the earliest. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said earlier this month that it would be "unwise" to go public in 2026 given the company's current focus on AI security issues. Previously, OpenAI had secretly filed IPO-related documents with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in June this year.
On security issues, Altman delivered a speech at the U.S. Security Council earlier this month, discussing the potential risks that increasingly powerful AI systems may pose.
Meanwhile, rival Anthropic (the developer behind Claude) is pushing ahead with plans to go public this year, with an IPO expected to push the company's valuation to more than $2 trillion.
