Bitcoin pulled back after hitting US$82,000. Tensions in the Middle East and technical sell signals emerged.
Core points:
- Bitcoin climbed from about US$75,000 to nearly US$82,000 in a few days, and then was blocked by sellers and its rise stalled.
- Just as Bitcoin was testing the resistance zone near $82,000, new geopolitical risks suddenly arrived.
- The TD Sequential indicator sent a buy signal when Bitcoin approached US$75,000, but turned into a sell signal after the price reached approximately US$81,500.
Bitcoin shows signs of correction
Bitcoin has previously rebounded from its strongest support level since early September-around US$75,000, and once approached US$82,000. However, this breakthrough attempt ultimately failed to maintain momentum. Despite the market experiencing two major setbacks earlier this week, buying still pushed cryptocurrencies back to the $80,000 mark.
In the process, the Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act and the Federal Reserve announced a 25 basis point rate hike. Despite these pressures, Bitcoin quickly regained its vitality. However, the reversal of the market coincides with a resumption of conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iranian-backed Houthi forces in Yemen. Saudi officials said their air defense system intercepted a ballistic missile fired at Riyadh, while the Houthi militants claimed to have launched missile and drone attacks on facilities in the capital and Yanbu area.
The US State Department warned that the conflict "has the potential for rapid escalation" and urged Americans outside the Middle East to seriously consider whether to continue traveling through the region. Donald Trump, meanwhile, cut short his weekend at Camp David and returned early to the White House, although the administration did not publicly explain the reason for the schedule change.
This uncertainty comes at a time when bitcoin is already in a resistance zone early in the test. Bitcoin approached $82,000 for the first time in two weeks, putting pressure on the market to take profits after a quick rally.
Technical Analysis: Ali Martinez's View
Technical analyst Ali Martinez pointed out that the TD Sequential indicator generated a buy signal when Bitcoin fell to around US$75,000. However, by Saturday night, as Bitcoin reached about $81,500, the indicator had switched to a sell signal, indicating that short-term momentum may have been overstretched.
It should be emphasized that this indicator does not mean that Bitcoin will inevitably fall, but it adds a technical obstacle to this market that is already full of new geopolitical uncertainties. The US$82,000 area remains the key resistance level at the immediate moment.
