BlackRock CEO Larry Fink's brief conversation with XRP has once again attracted attention
As cryptocurrency enthusiast "Good Evening Crypto" released related video clips on the X platform, a brief conversation involving BlackRock CEO Larry Fink and XRP has returned to the public eye. The video shows a Fox News interview in which the host asked BlackRock if it would launch another cryptocurrency exchange-traded fund (ETF), making specific mention of XRP.
The host first asked BlackRock if he would promote another ETF project, and then asked: "What about the XRP ETF?" Fink replied: "I can't (response/comment)." When the host continued to press, Fink again refused to comment, repeating "I can't", and then the interview turned to other topics.
Interpretation and controversy on social media
"Good Evening Crypto" wrote when sharing the clip: "The more I read this clip about BlackRock, the more interesting it became to XRP." The post interpreted Fink's evasive attitude as an interesting detail for XRP holders, although the video itself did not confirm BlackRock plans to launch an XRP ETF.
However, this post also triggered criticism from some users, questioning the relevance of the video. One user named Reckless said that if the host asked about any other cryptocurrencies, Fink would likely give the same response, so it would be inappropriate to link it to XRP speculation.
Another user, Lary_K, focused on the timeliness of videos. He pointed out that the interview was almost three years old and believed that using old footage to assess BlackRock's current position in the cryptocurrency market was misleading. This distinction is crucial because BlackRock's current ETF strategy does not directly predict the imminent arrival of XRP products.
BlackRock has not yet submitted an XRP ETF application
Although this fragment has attracted attention in the expanding spot XRP ETF market, BlackRock has not formally submitted an application for a spot XRP ETF. The asset management company still focuses on the cryptocurrency ETF business of Bitcoin and Ethereum through products such as iShares Bitcoin Trust and iShares Ethereum Trust.
At the same time, other asset management companies have taken the lead in entering the XRP ETF market. Currently, seven spot XRP ETFs, including 21Shares, Bitwise and Canary Capital, are being traded. The cumulative net inflow to this market has exceeded US$1.55 billion, and the total assets are approximately US$1.4 billion.
Industry analysis: BlackRock may wait for a larger market
Industry analysts and ETF executives point out that BlackRock often tends to see significant liquidity and market size before entering new market segments. According to reports, the company may wait for the broader XRP ETF market to approach US$30 billion in assets before considering launching its own products.
It should be noted that BlackRock, through its BUIDL fund and relationships with partners such as Securitize, has remained engaged in the tokenization space, including interactions with the broader XRP Ledger ecosystem and RLUSD-related infrastructure.
Conclusion
This recirculated video clip provides another interesting point of discussion for XRP observers, but Fink's remarks do not constitute confirmation of BlackRock's launch of the XRP ETF. As of now, BlackRock remains outside the spot XRP ETF market, while rival issuers continue to build assets and liquidity in the space.
