Solana main network upgrade: The transaction size limit has been increased to 4,096 bytes

According to the upgrade instructions officially released by Solana, on September 15, 2026, at approximately 01:00 UTC (that is, the beginning of the 1035th Era), Solana launched the txv1 function gating on the main network. This upgrade increases the maximum transaction size of the network from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes. The change is defined by SIMD-0296 and is delivered through the v1 transaction format introduced by SIMD-0385. Solana said the larger data envelope is designed to unlock workloads that previously had to be split into multiple chained transactions, while existing v0 and legacy formats will continue to run unchanged.

Advantages of the 4,096-byte cap

Solana positioned this adjustment as a "capacity increase" rather than a "disruptive change." Tasks that previously required splitting into multiple chain transactions-such as zero-knowledge certificates (such as those used for confidential transfers), large multi-signature operations, and batch programs-can now be implemented as a single atomic transaction. This means that users only need to pay less for signing and only need to confirm the transaction once, rather than multiple times.

Since v0 and legacy transactions remain unchanged, wallets and applications that do not require extra space will still work as they do today. The official statement emphasized that there have been no changes in the user's operating procedures when approving, signing or sending transactions.

Node operators face migration window

Although this feature is already available on the main network, test network and development network, Solana pointed out that some infrastructure requires specific version upgrades:
