SOL Cryptocurrency-related stocks experienced violent fluctuations after regulatory setbacks and monetary policy tightening, and then rebounded as the SEC launched a new path to tokenize U.S. stocks.
On September 15, the U.S. Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act, and the next day the Federal Reserve announced a 25 basis point rate hike. Affected by this, cryptocurrency-related stocks experienced violent fluctuations for several days.
After the Senate vote was announced, Coinbase shares fell 10.1%, Circle fell 11.5%, MicroStrategy fell 5.4%, and Robinhood fell 3.4%. Bitcoin prices also slipped below $76,000 as investors absorbed the impact of regulatory setbacks and tighter monetary policy.
The SEC opens new path for tokenized U.S. stocks to enter traditional finance
However, market sentiment improved on Thursday. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has unveiled a new path that promises to introduce a key feature of the cryptocurrency market into the traditional financial arena: blockchain-based trading of U.S. stocks.
On September 17, the SEC issued two conditional five-year exemptions that allow certain blockchain trading platforms and liquidity providers to facilitate the trading of tokenized representatives of U.S. stocks. Tokenization refers to the creation of a digital representation of an asset on the blockchain. Under the framework established by the SEC, eligible stock tokens must have the same rights as underlying shares, including dividend rights and voting rights.
In addition, relevant companies must receive 30 days 'notice in advance and have the right to object to the tokenization of their shares.
Framework takes effect immediately and aims to balance innovation and investor protection
