Ripple Prime re-bets on Wall Street 2.0, XRP becomes institutional collateral
Ripple Prime is rapidly emerging as an important force in the next generation of institutional finance and is at the heart of "Wall Street 2.0"-an all-weather financial ecosystem driven by blockchain technology.
In an interview, Mike Higgins, director of business development and accounts for Ripple Prime, pointed out that the current slowdown in the crypto market should not be mistaken for a decline in digital asset adoption. Instead, he believes that global financial markets are steadily moving towards 24/7 trading, clearing and collateral management, which is driving the need for blockchain infrastructure that can operate around the clock.
"The current encryption winter is not the digital asset winter," Higgins emphasized that tokenized assets, stablecoins and blockchain networks are rapidly becoming important parts of modern capital markets.
This shift accelerated further after Ripple acquired leading broker Hidden Road (now renamed Ripple Prime). By combining Hidden Road's institutional key brokerage expertise with Ripple's blockchain infrastructure, corporate network and financial strength, the company has significantly expanded its institutional services capabilities.
According to Higgins, the strategy has begun to bear fruit. Since the acquisition, Ripple Prime's revenue has tripled, and Ripple's balance sheet has also improved its borrowing capacity. Integration with Ripple's compliant U.S. dollar stablecoin RLUSD and XRP ledgers is expected to further simplify the settlement process, improve capital efficiency and reduce transaction costs.
Ripple Prime unleashes the institutional utility of XRP through mortgage financing
One of Ripple Prime's most innovative initiatives is to transform XRP from a passive balance sheet asset into income-producing institutional collateral.
According to market analyst Chad Steingraber, Ripple Prime now issues XRP-based depositary receipts, allowing institutions to pledge XRP as collateral to obtain U.S. dollar credit and trade CME futures without having to sell positions. This allows companies to maintain market exposure to XRP while releasing liquidity, potentially avoiding triggering taxable sales events, and allocate capital more efficiently.
In addition to digital assets, Ripple Prime also supports a variety of collateral, including U.S. Treasury bonds, legal tender, gold, Bitcoin, XRP and BlackRock Money Market Funds. This unified collateral framework allows institutions to seamlessly manage liquidity between traditional and digital markets.
This timing deserves attention. Reports that the White House has resolved a key hurdle surrounding the CLARITY Act have boosted market expectations of clearer U.S. digital asset regulation, a development widely seen as a catalyst for increased institutional engagement.
With a multi-asset collateral platform, deep integration with the Ripple ecosystem, and infrastructure designed for the 24/7 market, Ripple Prime is building itself, XRP and XRP ledgers as key pillars of the next generation of global capital markets.
