Aave major adjustment: strategic market contraction
As a leading decentralized financial platform, Aave is undergoing comprehensive organizational changes and plans to exit multiple markets to improve efficiency and strengthen risk management. The platform announced that it will gradually close 75 asset markets and withdraw from six blockchain networks in order to pool resources to develop highly active markets.
Which markets will be affected?
Aave founder Stani Kulechov announced the changes via social media, attaching a detailed governance proposal. The reduction plan includes withdrawing 50 reserve assets with low usage from multiple platforms such as Ethereum and Polygon. In addition, the platform will also exit small blockchain environments such as Sonic and Aptos, which will affect the availability of another 25 asset reserves.
This strategic adjustment will involve approximately US$98 million in supply assets and US$15.6 million in outstanding debt. Specifically, the clearing of reserve assets would involve $85.3 million in assets and $11.5 million in debt, while withdrawals from the network would involve $12.8 million in assets and $4.1 million in debt.
The adjustment is not a sudden shutdown, but is being advanced by restricting new activities and setting stricter borrowing and supply caps. These measures will encourage users to gradually liquidate positions while increasing reserve requirements to assist in the transition.
Why is risk management so important?
These adjustments are in line with Aave's newly adopted Risk Framework and Technology Asset Listing Framework, which clarify strict standards for maintaining reserve assets. Through continuous risk assessment, the company plans to continuously optimize existing deployments, emphasizing that risk management is proactive rather than passive response due to emergencies.
Aave's shift reflects its strategic focus from rapid expansion to reducing the risks associated with supporting multiple networks, especially in the context of increasing mobility complexity.
The focus will shift significantly to markets with greater user engagement and liquidity.
The new governance framework reflects a risk-oriented strategy rather than targeting specific events.
Other agreements that still insist on multi-network operations are expected to bring competitive pressure.
Existing asset suppliers need to respond quickly to avoid potential losses.
As Aave refocuses, some users may turn to other platforms that provide broader markets or network coverage. The adjustment confirms that Aave prioritizes robust liquidity and risk control over extensive network services.
