After weeks of sideways consolidation, the cryptocurrency market has finally ushered in a breakthrough rather than the previous turmoil of unclear direction.
Bitcoin took the lead in soaring sharply, with its price exceeding US$69,000 for the first time since mid-June, setting a new high in nearly two months.
Looking back, Bitcoin fell below US$63,000 during the last trading weekend, then gained support and recovered to US$63,000 over the weekend. Signs of recovery began to show on Monday and Tuesday, and today's gains were the strongest in months.
Ethereum also exceeded the $2,000 mark for the first time in months, and even hit $2,100 at one point.
XRP finally rebounded above that level after falling below the key support of US$1 several times last week.
Due to the sharp fluctuations in the market, the volume of liquidation has also surged. CoinGlass data showed that leveraged positions worth $1.2 billion were liquidated in the past hour alone.
Among them, short positions dominated, accounting for US$1.14 billion of total liquidations. Bitcoin and Ethereum led the way, with long positions of $680 million and $425 million, respectively, being liquidated.
