U.S. spot bitcoin ETF suffers its largest one-day net redemption in nearly two months
U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recently recorded the most significant one-day net outflow in nearly two months, partially offsetting the gains from previous surges in inflows. This combined outflow trend suggests a shift in institutional investor sentiment after a strong rebound in the first three weeks. During this period, total net inflows from funds in this category reached $3.8 billion.
The largest one-day outflow since July
According to market tracker SoSoValue, the net asset value of the spot Bitcoin ETF fell by $282.6 million on Thursday. This was the highest one-day net outflow since July 13, when the product experienced a $424.7 million outflow. The latest market developments have eroded the strong inflows seen in previous weeks.
Currently, the total net asset value of spot Bitcoin ETFs totals US$97.5 billion. Among them, the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (code: ARKB), managed by ARK Invest and 21Shares, led the decline on Thursday, with a net outflow of US$164 million. A pioneer in the cryptocurrency ETF space, Grayscale Bitcoin Trust ETF (code: GBTC) recorded a net redemption of $36 million, while Fidelity's FBTC lost $33.6 million.
SoSoValue's data shows that in the past three trading days, the cumulative net outflow of spot Bitcoin ETF this week reached US$449 million. Despite this reversal, cumulative net inflows to all spot Bitcoin ETFs remained positive, with a total net inflow of US$55.17 billion since launch.
Ethereum and Solana ETFs are also now flowing out
The spot Ethereum (ETH) ETF, a major investment product in digital assets that has attracted much attention, recorded a net outflow of US$29.8 million on Thursday. The move erased most of the $34.8 million inflow observed in the previous trading day, highlighting the volatility of investor interest.
The spot Solana (SOL) ETF was also under pressure, recording a net outflow of $483,000 on Thursday, according to SoValue. The day before that, the funds attracted $11.7 million in new net investments.
The recent outflows of these leading spot cryptocurrency ETFs coincide with a broader market correction and profit-taking period following a sharp rise at the beginning of the month.
