What changes have occurred to Chainlink pledge from v0.1 to v0.2?

The first beta version of v0.1 will be launched in December 2022. It holds 25 million LINKS and focuses on a single task: monitoring ETH/USD data feeds on Ethereum through an alarm system.

v0.2 upgrade will be followed up in November 2023. The official v0.2 overview describes a rebuilt modular design that includes a binderless mechanism, node operator penalty mechanism, and variable reward rates.

What are the parameters of Chainlink pledge?

4.32% is the interest rate retained by the community pledger after allocating the 4% reward to the node operator. It assumes that the pool is full: the fuller the pool, the lower the interest rate per pledger; the emptier the pool, the higher the interest rate. Therefore, this is a guaranteed interest rate rather than a promised return.

The pool of 45 million LINK is also an upper limit. Projects say they expect the cap to grow, so check the real-time dashboard for today's size.

How do Chainlink pledge rewards work?

Rewards are accumulated as "Attributed Rewards." Some of them can be collected immediately, and the rest are locked and unlocked in a straight line during a 90-day climbing period to track each pledger. Halfway through the climbing period, half of the rewards you have earned will be received.

There is a key point here: completing the release will reset the ramp up period to zero and confiscate any locked rewards, which will flow to other pledgers. Adding more LINKS to the same address will also restart the 90-day timer, but will not lose the lockdown bonus.

The basic reward initially consisted of the issuance of LINK tokens, and the project is expected to gradually decrease as fee income grows. In March 2025, it launched "Payment Abstract" to convert service fees to LINK. The project is expected to later provide rewards from fees to pledgers of its Smart Value Capture (SVR) service, half to support the base rate and the other half as additional rewards. The official page does not yet display the amount reached so far.

Where do penalties in Chainlink pledge apply?

Punishment means that the pledger loses part of the pledge money due to violations. In v0.2, only node operator pledgers face this risk. Community pledgers are not affected by this risk.

At startup, the system protects the ETH/USD data feed on Ethereum. If there is no valid oracle report for more than 3 hours, the community pledger can issue an alarm. The node operator has priority and can issue an alert within the first 20 minutes. Effective alerts will result in the forfeiture of 700 LINK per affected node operator and payment of 7,000 LINK to the alert.
