Zcash Spot ETF momentum rests after a strong start, and the market waits for further development
Zcash ($ZEC) Spot Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) have made one of the strongest starts in the history of cryptocurrency ETFs. However, this momentum seems to have temporarily stalled.
Record start
Grayscale's Zcash ETF (code: ZCSH) began trading on the New York Stock Exchange's Apache Market (NYSE Arca) on August 25, 2026, becoming the first U.S. exchange-traded product to provide investors with ZEC spot exposure through regular brokerage accounts without relying on crypto exchanges or self-managed wallets.
The fund performed strongly as soon as it went public. Just two weeks after its launch, its Asset Management Scale (AUM) exceeded the US$500 million mark. For the week ended September 18, 2026, Zcash spot ETF trading volume reached US$11.42 billion, accounting for 32.5% of the total turnover of all spot cryptocurrency ETFs. Although only a few weeks after its establishment, Zcash ETF ranks third among altcoin ETFs in terms of capital inflows, behind XRP and Solana.
This winning streak of capital inflows is further thanks to high-profile anchored investments: On September 8, 2026, Digital Currency Group authorized participants to purchase approximately US$100 million worth of fund shares, in exchange for delivering 85,705 ZEC tokens to the fund.
From a price perspective, the launch of ETFs has become a powerful catalyst. On September 4, 2026, the ZEC price exceeded US$1,021, crossing the psychological barrier of US$1,000 for the first time in its history. The asset has gained more than 88% in 30 days, and its performance against the U.S. dollar over the past six months has shown an appreciation of approximately 353%.
The rising momentum came to an abrupt end
The strong capital inflow was suddenly interrupted on September 23. According to data, the product attracted a net inflow of more than US$284 million in a single month in September, followed by a record of zero activity for three consecutive days.
It remains to be seen whether this pause reflects investors 'need to breathe after a rapid rise or whether it means deeper structural changes. Context factors can be crucial here. On September 18, 2026, Grayscale announced a 3-in-1 forward share split for ZCSH. The equity registration date is September 28, and the adjusted transaction will begin on September 30. The split will not change the underlying value of the fund, but aims to make the shares more acceptable to a wider investor base. Therefore, it is logical to speculate that some participants may wait for the post-split market structure to stabilize before establishing new positions.
At the same time, the broader product landscape is still expanding. 21Shares launched Zcash ETP (exchange-traded product) in Europe on September 22, 2026, providing European investors with a new regulated way to reach ZEC. Whether this development will divert capital from products listed in the United States or simply expand the overall investor base will warrant close attention in the coming weeks.
就目前而言,这几天的零资金流动留下了一个未解之谜:这是否是更大结构趋势中的一时停顿,还是标志着围绕$ZEC ETF的初始兴奋感已经消退的第一个信号?
