Data showed that the trading price of SOL on September 28 was US$118.75, down 3.29% from the previous day, while the average price on the seventh day was basically flat, down only slightly by 0.55%.

What September 28 really means in Solana Calendar

Anza released the calendar for the Agave Verifier Client v4.3 version on August 12, 2026. It lists September 28, and the entry is "Mainnet-beta: Recovery Function Activation". This means that from that day on, Anza will reprocess pending protocol switching queues on the production network. It is worth noting that Alpenglow is not mentioned in this entry.

"Feature Gate" is the technical term for this type of switch: a code change that already exists in all running copies will only take effect after enough validators release it. Solana opens these gates at the boundaries of each Epoch, which lasts approximately 38 hours. Therefore, dates in the calendar mark the beginning of the window, rather than the time when a particular feature is specifically launched.

In media reports,"the recovery function will be activated from September 28" was misinterpreted as "Alpenglow will arrive on September 28." This is the entire source of the date. This is not an extension in the strict sense of the word, but a date that was never assigned to Alpenglow.

Anza and Yakovenko's refutation of date expectations

As weekend launch expectations heat up, developers stepped forward to clarify. Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko answered only one word in response to rumors that it was about to be launched on the main network: "decel", which is the exact opposite of accelerating.

Roger Wattenhofer, director of research at Anza, is more blunt. He publicly questioned why an agreement should be activated after only a few days of public testing, concluding with "No Alpenrush"(Don't rush to go online). It makes no sense to switch verifiers purely because of the agreement date. Switching only makes sense if your validator continues to perform poorly or charges high commissions. This assessment has nothing to do with Alpenglow.

Holding periods and taxes are not affected by upgrade dates

Agreement changes are neither conversions nor disposals. Your SOL is still the same coin and has the same purchase date. Therefore, no matter when Alpenglow is officially launched, the one-year holding period for private disposal will continue to be calculated.
