Strategic investors join

Crypto exchange OKX has completed a new round of strategic financing, jointly funded by Ripple, Circle, quantitative investment management firm Qube Research and Technologies (QRT) and SC Ventures, a subsidiary of Standard Chartered Bank. This round of financing is a continuation of March this year, when Intercontinental Exchange Group (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, invested approximately US$200 million in OKX at the same US$25 billion valuation. The latest investors did not disclose their specific capital contributions.

The four new investors have partnered in key infrastructure areas of OKX, including USDC and RLUSD stablecoins, institutional liquidity, and custody services. Ripple brings expertise in payments, liquidity and stablecoin infrastructure, and its RLUSD stablecoin has been connected to OKX's unified order book. Circle is the world's largest issuer of regulated stablecoin USDC. Standard Chartered Bank serves as the custodian of BUIDL, a tokenized treasury bond fund at the core of the collateral framework launched in cooperation with OKX and BlackRock. London-based quantitative trading firm QRT (an independent company derived from Credit Suisse) also joined the list of shareholders, managing approximately US$1 billion in cryptocurrency fund assets.

Beyond Exchanges: OKX's broader vision

Xu Mingxing, CEO and founder of OKX, made it clear that funding was not the main motivation. "Exchanges are just our starting point, and we are evolving into a broader global fintech platform." Xu Mingxing said the funds will support the tokenization process of real-world assets. OKX is not looking for pure financial support, but investors who are already embedded in its infrastructure and are consistent with its long-term financial strategy.

ICE and OKX have been working together since March, and their joint venture, OKXICE LLC, is currently seeking approval to sell tokenized shares of 63 U.S. listed companies, including Nvidia, Apple and Coca-Cola, to the public through the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's innovation exemption framework. Once approved by U.S. regulators, the move will provide OKX's more than 120 million registered users with access to traditional markets, allowing them to trade through a familiar encrypted interface.

The new investor lineup reflects OKX's intention to bring together key builders of stablecoins, payments, liquidity and custody infrastructure under the same strategic framework, positioning itself as a next-generation financial technology platform rather than a purely cryptocurrency trading venue.
