BTC Bitcoin's next halving is 61% on track and is expected to take place in April 2028
According to the latest update posted by cycle analyst Root on the X platform (formerly Twitter), Bitcoin is 61% on track to the next halving milestone. Halving is a mechanism in the Bitcoin protocol that occurs periodically, roughly every four years, and systematically cuts mining rewards in half. This deflationary measure, aimed at controlling supply and reinforcing scarcity, is embedded in the code.
Halving Countdown
The most recent halving event occurred in April 2024, reducing the miner reward per block from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC. OKLink estimates that the next planned halving will occur on April 13, 2028. At that time, the miner reward per block will be further reduced to 1.5625 BTC.
There are currently 109,012 blocks to be confirmed before the event. Halving cycles have attracted widespread attention from the cryptocurrency community because they have historically influenced supply dynamics and have often coincided with significant price fluctuations.
