Bitcoin fell below the US$85,000 mark, deviating from institutional holdings and short-term price momentum
On Monday, Bitcoin prices fell below US$85,000 despite three large corporate treasury companies disclosed new plans to increase holdings. This phenomenon highlights the growing disconnect between institutional buying behavior and short-term price movements.
Strategy, Metaplan and Strive reported a combined net increase in purchases of 3,334 bitcoins. However, after encountering resistance again around $87,000, Bitcoin failed to hold on to the psychologically important key level of $85,000. The contrast suggests that corporate treasury demand alone is not yet enough to offset broader selling pressures. In addition, as treasury bond yields continue to be high, spot market demand is difficult to promote a convincing breakthrough.
Strategy's latest position is below the purchase cost
Strategy disclosed that it purchased 334 bitcoins at an average price of US$85,838.80 between October 1 and October 4, at a total cost of US$28.7 million. The transaction increased its total bitcoin holdings to 848,000, with a cumulative acquisition cost of approximately US$63.97 billion. As Bitcoin prices fell below the $85,000 mark, Strategy's latest Bitcoin purchase has been at a loss, but this has not interrupted the company's recent continuous increase in holdings.
Metaplanet completes quarterly net increase in holdings
Japanese company Metaplanet also disclosed significant third-quarter activity on Monday. The company first sold 10,000 bitcoins and then bought back 11,000 bitcoins, achieving a net increase of 1,000 bitcoins, bringing its treasury holdings to 44,000 bitcoins. The move continues Metaplanet's strategy of resuming Bitcoin purchases earlier this year.
Strive significantly increased its position near market price
Strive made the largest single new purchase among the three companies. The company purchased 2,000 bitcoins between September 28 and October 2 at an average price of $84,422 each, for a total cost of approximately $169 million. As a result, its Bitcoin holdings increased to 29,462, ranking among the top of the world's listed Bitcoin treasury.
Strive has been particularly active during periods of market weakness. Previously, the company had also taken advantage of the Bitcoin correction to implement procurement plans, showing a firm willingness to allocate in the long term.
