The Sui Foundation launches a US$10 million ecosystem fund to focus on AI infrastructure and DeFi projects
The Sui Foundation has launched a US$10 million ecosystem fund specifically to support AI infrastructure and decentralized finance (DeFi) projects built around the Sui (SUI) ecosystem.
Core Points
- The fund is designed to support decentralized AI infrastructure and native DeFi protocols.
- Support measures include development assistance, safety audit points, technical guidance, and funding disbursement based on milestones, rather than full one-time disbursement.
- Sui is using the project to compete for developer resources in two active areas of the cryptocurrency market.
Sui Builder Fund: Targeting Developer Support
The Sui Foundation will target new funds to teams developing decentralized AI infrastructure and DeFi-native applications on its Layer-1 blockchain. This initiative aims to provide comprehensive project support for teams from the development phase to the deployment phase.
The support package covers development support, security audit credits, technical assistance, and funding linked to milestones. Funding will not be released all at once. This structure allows the foundation to support project development over time and link support to project progress, rather than injecting the $10 million into the market as an instant injection.
The plan also reflects Sui's efforts to attract developers in the competitive Layer-1 market, where networks are competing for performance, tool chains and capital acquisition capabilities. The foundation focuses its funds on categories that can generate sustained online activity if projects reach users and maintain demand after incentives end.
Dual focus of AI and DeFi
AI applications can create demand for payments, data marketplaces, authentication tools, computing resource access, and automated coordination, while the DeFi protocol relies on fast settlement, liquidity and reliable infrastructure. Sui positions its architecture as the basic platform for these two types of applications, especially for those application scenarios that require high-frequency trading and have relatively low operating costs.
The more immediate test may come from the DeFi space, where new lending markets, decentralized exchanges, derivatives instruments and liquidity systems may bring significant changes in deposit volumes, trading volumes, and stablecoin activity.
While funding can reduce the cost of product launches, it does not guarantee that developers will retain users after financial support or other incentives fade. In addition, security support is also critical because audit costs often arise before the project generates substantial revenue. By including audit points and technical assistance, the fund alleviates some of the release burden while closely linking funding to development milestones.
Strategic Deepening and Future Outlook
Sui has previously built a broader developer support system around the Move language, including funding plans, technical resources and tools for teams launching projects on the network. The new $10 million fund further narrows the strategy to AI and DeFi, making adoption rates, sustained liquidity and developer retention the clearest indicators of whether spending has a lasting impact.
