Bottomline integrates Chainlink technology to connect its US$16 trillion annual payment infrastructure and blockchain network

Bottomline, one of the world's top three Swift service providers, has entered into a strategic partnership with Chainlink to unlock cross-chain and cross-border payment capabilities for its more than 600 bank customers. The Bottomline platform processes more than US$16 trillion in payments every year and maintains partnerships with more than 600 banking institutions, 1200 financial service providers and 10,000 corporate customers around the world. This collaboration allows Bottomline's bank customers to take advantage of blockchain-based settlement mechanisms while leaving existing operating systems unchanged. Trading instructions will continue to be compatible with the ISO 20022 messaging protocol, which is currently a commonly adopted communication standard in the financial services industry. Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) will manage the flow of tokenized assets between different blockchain ecosystems. At the same time, the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) will coordinate the complete payment process, connecting traditional banking platforms with blockchain infrastructure. Through this unified integration point, financial institutions can access numerous public and private blockchain networks without the need to develop dedicated connections for each network. International payment processing is one of the main application scenarios of this cooperation. Data shows that cross-border transactions usually take several days to complete final settlement, and transaction costs may be as high as more than 5% of the transfer amount. Chainlink's integration provides an alternative settlement mechanism for financial institutions participating in the program. Although the announcement did not disclose specific transaction volumes, deployment schedules or the list of the first banks to participate, the move marks an important step for Chainlink in enterprise-level deployment. Major financial institutions, including Swift, JPMorgan, UBS, ANZ, BNY Mellon and the Abu Dhabi based ADI Foundation, have implemented Chainlink infrastructure in their operations. For example, in May 2025, JPMorgan Chase completed its initial public blockchain settlement using Chainlink technology and processed tokenized U.S. Treasury bonds through Ondo Finance. In July of the same year, Aave designated CCIP as its main cross-chain solution; in August, BitGo made a similar commitment, selecting CCIP as the only infrastructure provider for its Wrapped Bitcoin platform, which at the time managed assets of approximately US$7.3 billion. Research analysts at Standard Chartered Bank's digital assets division pointed out in August that as the asset tokenization program moves from a pilot project to a full deployment, non-crypto native customers are expected to contribute an increasing share of Chainlink's revenue. Currently, Chainlink oracle infrastructure guards a total value of approximately $33.1 billion spread across 505 protocols, while CCIP has processed more than $18 billion in cross-blockchain transactions on more than 70 different networks.
