Debate XRP debt challenge story of tokenized financing

In the wave of sovereign debt tokenization, rumors of XRP and national debt need to be clarified.

With the increasing popularity of sovereign debt tokenization on public blockchain platforms, discussions on XRP debt cases have become increasingly lively. However, the data currently available clearly distinguishes actual activity on blockchain platforms from market speculation surrounding the government's possible use of XRP.

Stellar performs strongly in the RWA field

According to measurement data provided by RWA.xyz on August 20, 2026, the amount of non-U.S. sovereign debt tokenized on the Stellar platform is approximately US$490 million. Stellar emphasized that it has become a leader in this specific field, even surpassing Ethereum in some respects.

Specifically, Stellar holds a leading position in non-U.S. government debt, while Ethereum maintains a dominant position in the tokenized U.S. Treasury market. In addition, Stellar reports that its entire real-world asset (RWA) ecosystem continues to grow. According to Stellar, as of June 2026, the total amount of tokenized RWA has reached US$3 billion, including sovereign bonds, treasury bonds products, investment funds, credit instruments, and assets such as gold.

XRP embroiled in U.S. Treasury debt controversy

The debate surrounding XRP focuses on another potential application scenario for the asset. Supporters of XRP believe the token could eventually be used in U.S. financial infrastructure, covering areas such as payments, liquidity management or settlement.

Some online discussions have even further speculated that XRP may intervene in strategies related to U.S. national debt. However, there is currently no policy evidence of such a plan. When talking about the U.S. economy, U.S. Vice President JD Vance mentioned the topics of economic growth and the establishment of sovereign wealth funds, but did not disclose any strategies based on XRP to manage or repay national debt.

This distinction is crucial because huge national debt does not mean that a specific cryptocurrency will necessarily be used to solve this problem. The tokenization of sovereign debt is essentially moving existing financial instruments onto the blockchain technology platform rather than introducing new currency alternatives.

XRP and tokenization: Two different narrative lines

The market continues to pay close attention to XRP's progress in institutional adoption of blockchain technology. Currently, the price of XRP is around US$1.40, and recent market data shows support at around US$1.32 and resistance at around US$1.46.

But price levels alone cannot confirm government adoption or specific use cases related to debt obligations. A more convincing example is the case of actual use and adoption by the showcase agency. For example, Stellar showed how assets such as Mexican CETES bonds or Brazilian government bonds could be leveraged on blockchain networks, providing investors with access to specific sovereign assets.

In contrast, XRP's case in terms of institutional adoption is still forward-looking. Potential applications of XRP include cross-border payments, liquidity management, settlement and other infrastructure applications. The above assumptions can be confirmed or refuted only if the government or other agency confirms that there is a plan to use XRP based on a debt strategy.

Therefore, while the tokenization trend demonstrates the adoption of blockchain technology by the traditional financial industry, it does not in itself prove that XRP will be used in scenarios related to U.S. national debt.
