Years of economic isolation have contributed to the growth of Iran's domestic crypto market. Blockchain analytics company Chainalysis estimates that Iran's crypto ecosystem will reach approximately US$7.8 billion in 2025. Activities related to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reportedly accounted for nearly half of all transactions in the fourth quarter.
Chainalysis also found that in 2025 alone, digital wallets associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps received more than $3 billion in funding. However, this estimate only covers wallets that the researchers have identified. Iran's state-connected networks and businesses are increasingly turning to digital assets to reach out to the global economy and circumvent the restrictions of traditional banks. According to the U.S. Treasury Department, Iran's largest crypto exchange Nobitex handled more than half of the country's digital asset inflows in 2025.

Sanctions expand to broader crypto infrastructure
The U.S. government has extended its sanctions from exchanges to companies that support Iran's crypto industry. The Ministry of Finance has sanctioned Pishtaz Simorgh Electronic Trading Company, a software development company that built technology for BitBank. The move highlights the broad impact of sanctions, as the crypto business relies on external providers to provide software, liquidity, payment integration and custody solutions.
